  • Pointeworks' Artistic Director, Sophie Williams, pioneers this one night event at the Balboa Theater in San Diego as a monumental moment for dance history. Here at Pointeworks, we unify artists to collaborate with a heart towards change. "COMPOSITIONS: An Evening of Katie Jenkins," brings together an international cast of world class artists for a program dedicated entirely to female voices in both choreography and composition. Along with it being Pointeworks biggest event to date, we are dedicating this night to the incredible women that shape our industry. "COMPOSITIONS" is our way of honoring our very own Resident Choreographer, Katie Jenkins, as the very FIRST female composer to compose a full evening ballet of mixed repertoire. The program features the return of Laine Habony’s Chasing Shadows, a striking piano solo work, Jacquelyn Long’s Moving Forces for six dancers, piano and violin, and the evening culminates in a world premiere, Where No Storm Comes, by acclaimed choreographer Hélène Simoneau, featuring a soaring new score for live string quartet. Please join us in celebrating the beauty of dance, collaboration and connection, female voices, and the gift that art is to our lives! We hope to see you there! Pointeworks on Facebook / Instagram
  • Go behind the scenes and into the wonderfully chaotic world of opera as Opera A la Carte San Diego presents Donizetti's hilarious comedy, "Viva la Mamma!" • A true story of laughter, love and a little cheek. A Yorkshire women’s club decides to take an unconventional route with their coming year’s fundraising calendar – rather than their typical photos of spectacular views of local landscapes or churches, it’s going to be photos of spectacular views of their own members wearing next to nothing! Their reasoning for the risqué move is honorable but it takes much convincing and plenty of liquid courage to capture each calendar girl pose month-by-month. This play blends humor, heart, and empowerment, telling the true-inspired story of ordinary women discovering courage, friendship, and self-acceptance along the way. "Calendar Girls" contains adult themes and language. There are scenes with hidden partial nudity. This production is best suited for those over the age of 13 and is presented by special arrangement with Concord Theatricals. Please note: The Saturday performances on Aug. 29 and Sept. 12 are at 7:30 p.m. The Lamplighters Community Theatre on Facebook / Instagram
