Downtown’s The Whiskey House, which holds the Guinness World Record for Most Variety of Whiskeys Available, is hosting its March Whiskey Club Event on Thursday, March 27 with Bushmills Irish Whiskey, “the world's oldest licensed whiskey distillery” that was born in 1608. During our Chocolate Making Classes you will learn, create, eat and laugh! We offer chocolate making classes for adults and children 5 years and older*. Our hands-on chocolate making classes are about 1 ½- 2 hours long and limited to 12 students (or 12 child/ parent teams). There you will learn the basics of working with chocolate, create your own bark, molded chocolates and more. During class, students will play with favorite flavors like salted caramel and peanut butter cup and select monthly themed flavors made by chocolatier Michelle Lomelin. Students will also select from more than two dozen ingredients as they personalize a chocolate bark – with favorite flavors including freeze dried fruits and savory pretzels, potato chips and a wide selection of nuts. Plus, you will get to keep all your creations! Our chocolate making classes are offered one Saturday a month and each month has its own theme. June is the height of berry season and we are showcasing them at their peak! For molded chocolates we will be using strawberry lemonade ganache and brambleberry caramel. For barks we will be using freeze dried blueberries, raspberries and strawberries. We will even dip fresh strawberries! Offering a message of hope that spans centuries, musical styles and faith traditions, the Village Church presents a free Spring Choral Concert on Sunday, April 13th at 4 p.m. Songs of Hope features internationally recognized organist Nathaniel Gumbs, director of chapel music at Yale University. He will be joined by the Village Community Chorale, several soloists and professional musicians. The performance includes the Chichester Psalms by Leonard Bernstein, “The Chariot Jubilee” by R. Nathaniel Dett, “Hear My Prayer” by Felix Mendelssohn, and “Song of Hope” by Florence Price. This free concert will be presented in the church sanctuary at 6225 Paseo Delicias in Rancho Santa Fe. The Coronado Library was founded in 1890. The original library was built as a classical building that architect Harrison Albright designed in 1909. The building still stands at 640 Orange Avenue located in the heart of the Coronado community. This original building serves as the Spreckels Reading Room within the 40,000 square feet remodeled and expanded library building. The library includes study space at tables and carrels, lounge seating, wireless Internet access, a large public meeting room, conference room, study rooms, separate Children's Library and Teen area, public-access computers, and collections in various subjects and formats. The library also has several large exhibit spaces where we display curated art from the local Coronado and San Diego community and museum-like curated cultural exhibits. This summer, the library will host "Alice: Illustrating Wonderland," a special exhibit celebrating 160 years of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. In honor of this milestone, we invite artists of all ages to reimagine the whimsy and wonder of Lewis Carroll’s timeless tale. Choose a character or scene that inspires you—from the Mad Hatter’s tea party to Alice’s encounter with the Queen of Hearts—and craft your own two-dimensional masterpiece. Winners will receive prizes, and at least 10 pieces from each age category will be featured in the exhibit alongside 160 beautifully illustrated editions of the book.
