Set across a family dinner and drawing from the playwright’s daughter’s real dating experiences, the play examines the dynamics between one’s lived experience, how we see ourselves, and more importantly, how the world sees us. The family of characters navigate a seemingly simple word choice that explodes into a larger reckoning with history, privilege, and accountability. Gobel masterfully interweaves biting humor with gut-punch honesty, drawing out the contradictions of well-meaning identity politics and liberalism, the defensiveness of denial, and the vulnerability of those forced to carry the burden of “teaching” their peers. We’ll also cover online sales platforms like Saatchi, Fine Art America, RedBubble, and Society6, outlining what artists need to succeed, from strong images and bios to a cohesive body of work. Participants will leave more confident in pricing their art and better prepared to expand their reach online.
