But on Christmas Eve, a chilling visit from his late business partner, Jacob Marley (Nolan Levinson), sets Scrooge on a journey through time with three mysterious spirits—the Ghost of Christmas Past (Moorea Howson), the Ghost of Christmas Present (Stevie Evoy), and the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come (CJ Rodriguez). Through their lessons, Scrooge witnesses the cost of his cold heart and the hope of redemption before it’s too late. The rarely screened "Four Nights of a Dreamer" is Robert Bresson’s great forgotten masterpiece, a stark yet haunting ode to romantic idealism and the capriciousness of love. Adapted from Fyodor Dostoevsky’s “White Nights,” "Four Nights" follows Jacques (Guillaume des Forêts), a lonely artist who roams bohemian Paris in search of the girl of his dreams. One night he saves a beautiful young woman, Marthe, from plunging into the Seine in despair over her rejection by an avoidant lover (Maurice Monnoyer). Jacques compassionately attempts to reunite Marthe with her beau, but his feelings for his new friend soon become less than platonic and his investment in her personal drama far from selfless. "Four Nights of a Dreamer" has been called the French master’s “loveliest” work: with his signature minimalism, Bresson films the shimmering beauty of nocturnal Paris as it enfolds his characters in endless possibility—subtly capturing the wonder of unexpected connection and the mystery of fate. Co-written by John de Lancie (Q) and Kristen Tregar (Ph.D), "The Dover Panda Trial" is a radio-style play based on the actual transcripts and surrounding footage from the 2005 trial, Kitzmiller v. Dover Area School Board—where the school board in Dover, Pennsylvania was sued for requiring the teaching of a new “science” called “Intelligent Design” alongside Darwinian evolution in the ninth-grade science classroom. The reading will be followed by a brief panel discussion and Q&A. There will also be an "American Monkeys" book sale (the first published abridgment of the Scopes Monkey Trial transcripts) to benefit public libraries (paperbacks $20).
