  • The Spreckels Organ Society presents "The Phantom of the Opera in Concert," with soprano Laynee Dell and tenor Cole Tornberg, on Saturday, Oct. 25 at 6:30 p.m. The 45-minute concert version of "Phantom of the Opera" will include spectacular organ solos by San Diego Civic Organist Raul Prieto Ramirez. The program – free and open to the public – includes state-of-the-art spooky projections on the front of the Pavilion by SonderEyes, providing a unique Halloween visual experience that complements the music. Mondays, July 21, 28, August 4, 11, 25 From 6 p.m. - 8:30 p.m., with the last class of the series from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. In this 5-week class, instructor Lydia Kardos will teach the basics of handbuilding to create functional and sculptural ceramics. Working with mid fire clay, we will explore various methods of building forms and decorative techniques with glazes. Students will complete various projects throughout the course, learning the basics of clay materials and handbuilding — skills necessary to work independently in open studio. Students will be able to utilize a wide array of glazes and colors. All materials provided.   • Sunday, June 15, from 3 p.m. - 6 p.m. Come and explore the gorgeous natural blue of indigo in this Fiber Fest Sunday workshop. Students will learn a range of shibori dye resist processes in this hands-on, creative workshop, including tegumo (spiderweb), ori nui (stitched), and itajime (clamped) shibori methods. We will be using a natural indigo vat to dye a bamboo scarf and better understand the process and symbiotic relationship with indigo dye and this traditional textile surface design. Students will acquire the basic techniques to continue their journey into creating beautiful, unique textiles. This class is appropriate for ages 14+ years old. No prior experience necessary. All ages welcome! All materials included. This workshop is part of Craft Collective’s 2nd annual Fiber Fest! Join in the main day of festivities on Saturday, June 14th, for a day filled with fiber fun! It’ll be a vibrant celebration of natural textiles and sustainability, bringing together fiber artists, artisans, sustainability advocates, and local farmers. On June 14th, we’ll host a live demonstration of sheep shearing, more live artist-artisan demonstrations, interactive craft for families, artist vendors, food and more.
