North City, San Marcos is hosting its first-ever Classic Car Show, celebrating craftsmanship, design, and the culture that defines Southern California’s car scene. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., visitors can explore 50+ stunning vehicles on display, ranging from vintage classics and woodies to modern, exotic, and high-end showpieces, and a Classic Car Restoration Exhibit by Conservative Auto Body Shop. Appealing to drivers of all ages, the Family Friendly event features a Toddler Street Course of electric ride-on cars and scooters around a custom racetrack, and a Head-to-Head DieCast Cars Race Course, as well as other activities and lawn games. A live DJ will set the vibe with music, raffle prize giveaways, and announcements throughout the day. Trophies will be awarded in multiple categories, including Best of Show. Guests will have a chance to win gift cards to North City’s local eateries. There will be plenty of food and beverage options from popular neighborhood spots like Christophe Rull Patisserie, A Lo Fresco, Buona Forchetta, Maya’s Cookies, Wynston’s Ice Cream, Milonga Empanadas, and Draft Republic. Over the course of eight sessions, students will begin their journey into Yiddishland, exploring both the language and get a taste of its rich culture. The course begins with learning to read and write the alef-beys (alphabet). From there, students will soon be ready to read selections from Yiddish literature, sing traditional Yiddish folksongs, and practice everyday expressions. Students will learn how to introduce themselves, share their stories, and describe their personal connections to Yiddish. All learning materials will be provided by the teacher. He has led Yiddish poetry courses online for Babel’s Blessing Language School and in-person workshops at the Shtetl Berlin Festival, the Maison de la Culture Yiddish and the Yiddish Sof-Vokh UK, which he also helps to organise. He teaches at the summer programme ‘Ot Azoy’ and recently completed a pedagogy fellowship at the Yiddish Book Center (Amherst, MA). Learn to needle felt! November 16, 2-5 p.m. Oh, butterflies! Fluttering bursts of happy colors! In this class, we will be making a butterfly out of wool, using needle felting techniques. Needle felting is a process where wool fibers are pressed together using long, special needles of different sizes, turning wool into felt. Because of the sharpness of the needles, this class is for students 12+ years old, and guards will be provided. During these three hours we will cut out butterflies from wool felt , “paint” the wings with wool, and shape the body dimensionally. Your butterfly can be turned into a brooch or hung on the walls. No experience necessary. Ages 12+ welcome.
