Learn more about the reasons why people with dementia wander and ways to reduce the risk. The Sheriff’s Department will explain how the Take Me Home program operates, and share success stories.   • Exploring Mexico's Contemporary Classical Flute & Piano Music Flutist, Julia Barnett, & Pianist, Kathryn Lieppman present a recital of Music of the 20th/21st centuries written by Mexican Composers on Saturday, Sept. 28th, 4pm, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church 700 D Ave, Coronado, CA 92118 This program will feature Bichito by Diana Syrse for Piccolo and Piano, Leonardo Coral's "Sonata No Tan Breve," Samuel Zyman's Concerto No. 1, and Eduardo Angulo's "Sonata for Flute and Piano." Admission to the concert is free. However, a free will offering will be taken to support the artists. Ms. Lieppman and Dr. Barnett met while studying music at the esteemed Shepherd School of Music at Rice University and have continued their collaborations throughout the years. The program was inspired by Dr. Barnett's research for her Dissertation, "Performing Practice for Roberto Peña’s Concierto Para Flauta y Orquesta," as well as her collaborations with composer Samuel Zyman. This concert showcases the rich and vibrant flute music of Mexico, and will be the first of many performances focusing on Mexican and Latin American music, culminating in a professional CD showcasing the many gems from south of the border. The order severely limits asylum to migrants who cross the border illegally. And as the November election approaches, political rhetoric around immigration is getting more extreme. Plus, 40 students were arrested last month for taking part in the Gaza Solidarity Encampment protest at UC San Diego. Some of those students are now facing a critical situation: they might not be able to graduate later this week.
  • Restorative yoga sessions are held weekly at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday evenings at the Museum of Us. All are welcome, regardless of physical ability, age, or yoga experience. Classes are held in the Museum’s historic rotunda by yoga instructor, Lunita Velásquez. The evening classes promote relaxation and restoration by strengthening the mind-body connection with deep stretching, breathwork, and a welcoming space. Museum doors open at 5:15 p.m. and class begins promptly at 5:30 p.m. A limited number of yoga mats, blankets, and blocks are available to borrow. Dressing in layers is highly recommended.
