With the rise of Hitler, he fled Berlin to Paris in 1933, then onto the United States. During his time on Broadway he produced several popular musicals before landing in Hollywood, writing numerous scores for movie musicals. He also wrote several works for the concert hall and the operatic stage. Apart from “Mack the Knife” and “Pirate Jenny” from The Threepenny Opera, some of his most famous songs include “Surabaya Johnny,” “Speak Low,” “Lost in the Stars,” “Lonely House,” and “September Song” all of which will be sung on the cabaret.
