Preserve Greater Golden Hill to Host “March & Roll” in South Park Family-Friendly Event Aims to Spark Conversation About Housing Policies On Sunday, September 7 at 11:30 a.m. at the 28th Street Playground in South Park, neighbors from the South Park and Golden Hill communities will gather for a “March & Roll”—an inclusive, lively, family-friendly walk-ride-and-roll event designed to bring neighbors together, raise awareness, and start conversations about how current state and local housing legislation is affecting the safety, affordability, livability, and future of San Diego’s neighborhoods. The event will begin in South Park, where participants can meet, mingle, and decorate their walking shoes, strollers, scooters, bicycles, and wagons. At noon, the group will follow a set route through the neighborhood, showcasing community spirit and solidarity while enjoying South Park’s tree-lined streets and historic charm. Organizers say the goal is not just to voice concerns but to encourage informed dialogue about how to balance growth with preserving what makes each neighborhood unique. Participants are encouraged to bring reusable water bottles, sun protection, signs, and festive decorations for themselves or their wheels. Bakunawa Market is an ancestral and spiritual marketplace rooted in Filipino heritage and healing. Inspired by the Babaylan, the healers and spirit-keepers of pre-colonial Philippines, the market offers a sacred space to remember our roots, reconnect with ancestral wisdom, and restore spiritual balance. The free, two-day community event features 30+ makers, healers, and artists – from ceramists, jewelers, and visual artists to herbalists, tarot readers, energy workers, and culinary creators – whose work reflects ancestral wisdom, decolonial practices, and spiritual connection. The Bakla Collective will also be featured, showcasing Queer Filipinx creators and centering equity and representation within San Diego’s creative community. Enjoy live performances, a Sunday workshop lineup – including Intro to Mediumship, Zero-Waste Candle Making, and Yoga + Sound: Collective Healing – and Kamayan by Kujo Eats (Sunday, 5-7 p.m.). Particle FM presents a special evening of ambient music and sound art at Quint Gallery in La Jolla. The evening will feature Berlin-based musician, DJ, and field recordist Jake Muir, with an opening set by cross-border sound art group New Tongues. Atrevido (Particle FM founder Christian Gonzalez) will open the evening with a DJ set. The event will feature Particle FM’s audiophile 4-speaker Klipsch sound system to create a dynamic listening experience in Quint’s expansive gallery space. He approaches his practice as a listener first, carefully curating, layering and processing sounds that help him deconstruct and contextualize his lived experiences and influences. Using investigative software methodologies, DJ techniques, and dextrous engineering, Muir makes deeply personal sonic art that fluidly traverses genre, encouraging reflection, and sometimes prompting psychedelic states. Muir’s work has been presented at various spaces and festivals including INA-GRM (Paris), Public Records (NYC), Roter Salon (Berlin), Blitz Club (Munich), Human Resources (Los Angeles), The Lab (San Francisco), Honcho Campout (PA), and Sustain Release (NY). His recordings have been published by Sferic Records, Ilian Tape, Enmossed, Dust Editions, Further Records, and Boomkat Editions. His album Bathhouse Blues was included in Pitchfork’s 30 Best Jazz and Experimental Albums of 2023 list. New Tongues is a cross-border sound art group based in Baja, Mexico and San Diego, California. Founded in 2023 by artist/musician Preston Swirnoff with field recordist/sound designer Xareni Lizarraga and violist/producer Kathia Rudametkin, New Tongues is an adventure in interdisciplinary collaboration. With an emphasis on live performance and immersive sound environments, the group uses sound sculptures, field recordings, and traditional instruments to craft electroacoustic song forms that celebrate intimacy, sound ecologies, and deep listening. This performance will feature Swirnoff and Lizarraga as a duo.
