"20 Days in Mariupol" offers a harrowing account of the Ukrainian city under siege, revealing the critical work of journalists and the dangers they face in war-torn regions. Following the screening, a panel of speakers will discuss the role of journalists and writers, exploring the challenges and risks involved in their work, particularly in conflict zones. Amnesty International will also offer opportunities for attendees to support the work of journalists globally through letter-writing campaigns and petitions. This event aims to raise awareness about the vital role of a free press and encourage the community to advocate for journalists' safety and freedom. Refreshments will be served, and admission is free. This event is open to the public for ages 16 and up. We invite everyone to join us for an afternoon of powerful storytelling, insightful discussion, and community support for press freedom. Rhapsody in Blue, Porgy and Bess, An American in Paris are much loved. While it is true that he took the rhythms and melodies of jazz to a whole new, respectable level, several others helped him. David Lewis retired from MiraCosta College after 29 years of teaching adult music appreciation. He also teaches for the OSHER program at Cal State San Marcos and is the founder and director of the San Luis Rey Chorale and is director of Music at Trinity Episcopal Church in Escondido. He has entertained our life audience over the years 32 times! Stained glass is unusual among the arts because of its direct relationship with light. When light passes through colored glass, different values, textures, and densities combine to form an extraordinary palette. Explore this magic by creating your own unique leaded stained-glass panel. In this 7-week course, you will learn from stained glass professional Lisa Maywood as you complete one or more 2-dimensional panels that will transform any room or space. The enrollment fee covers the cost of basic drawing materials, lead, solder, cement, and the use of the tools and machinery. Glass will be procured by each student on their own outside of class. Blue Dolphin Glass is a great local source in San Diego. If you prefer your own supplies, please bring your own colored pencils and paper that is larger than 12″x12″ to the first class as you plan your project(s). It is also recommended that you bring your own safety gear (eye protection, dust mask, gloves). We have eye protection available if you do not have your own. There is no prerequisite for this class.
