  • Join us in the woodshop for this 5-hour brush making workshop! We will cover shop safety and how to use various machines such as the bandsaw, spindle sander, edge sander, and drill press. You will hone your carving skills by adding curves and texture to your piece. We will build upon machine knowledge and cover wood shaping using various hand tools such as rasps, files, spoke shaves, hand planes, chisels, and gouges. We will also discuss design principles, functional applications, the properties of wood, and brush materials such as Tampico fibers. At the end of the workshop, each student will leave with a unique brush to be used in the home, the shop, or as a beautiful sculpture or gift. Materials are provided. We recommend students bring their own eye protection, ear protection & apron. Aprons for sale here. No experience necessary. Ages 18+ welcome.   • Miracle Babies, a nonprofit organization whose mission is dedicated to helping perinatal mothers and their families during their time of need by providing transportation, mental health assistance and supportive services, will be hosting its next diaper distribution on Saturday, April 20th, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., at the Jack in the Box Corporate Office in Kearney Mesa (9357 Spectrum Center Blvd., San Diego, 92123). Registered guests will be able to attend the free diaper distribution from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and then it will open to the public from 11:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Over 350 local families are anticipated to attend. Registration is open through Friday April 19th at 12 p.m. or until supplies last. Since the creation of their diaper distributions in 2020, Miracle Babies has supplied over 1.5 million diapers to over 15,000 families in need. To ease the burden of financial stress, diaper drives are for all families, not just families with babies in the NICU. The American Medical Response (AMR) will also provide free car seat safety inspections on a limited basis. Families in need of products should register online at the Miracles Babies website to ensure availability of diaper sizes. Diaper donations and volunteers are welcome and accepted at all distributions.
