  • AIM at Melanoma is thrilled to announce the 2024 Steps Against Melanoma Walk, scheduled to take place on May 18, 2024, at Liberty Station in San Diego. This family-friendly event aims to raise awareness about melanoma while honoring survivors and supporting research initiatives. Participants who register and raise or self-donate $50 or more will receive a commemorative 2024 Steps Against Melanoma T-shirt. While every effort will be made to accommodate preferred sizes, T-shirts are subject to availability. To guarantee a T-shirt, registration must be completed by April 20, 2024. Melanoma survivors registering for the event will receive a special survivor T-shirt, with no fundraising minimum required. The event schedule is as follows: 8:00 AM: Registration & Check-In 8:45 AM: Opening Ceremony 9:00 AM: 3-Mile Fun Run/Walk In addition to the walk/run, participants can enjoy live music by Bucket Ruckus and a free yoga session. Leashed dogs are welcome to join in the event. Registration for the 2024 Steps Against Melanoma Walk is free, emphasizing AIM at Melanoma's commitment to inclusivity and community engagement. For the past 17 years, AIM at Melanoma's walks have been a beacon of hope, support, and fundraising for melanoma research initiatives, including the International Melanoma Tissue Bank Consortium. Receiving a coveted invitation to BachFest is a very prestigious honor, and Bach Collegium San Diego is only one of five American choirs who were invited. For those unable to attend the summer concert in Europe, BCSD is performing a preview of the concert they will be performing for San Diego audiences. In his second year as Thomaskantor, J.S.   • San Diego's renowned Songwriter Sanctuary series is back on April 26 at Normal Heights United, featuring a lineup of local troubadours including Calman Hart, Missy Alcazar, and Bug Guts. Joining them as our guest host is acclaimed poet and spoken word artist Lizzie Wann. About the Musicians Calman Hart, born in Woods Cross City, Utah, began his musical journey in high school, eventually making San Diego his home. With acclaimed albums like "Red-Eyed & Blue" and "Train in the Distance," he's been a staple in the city's music scene for decades as a solo artist and alongside Jeff Berkley as part of acclaimed duo Berkley Hart. Bug Guts, (rosebud and Scott Ireland) met during San Diego's punk scene heyday. After a transformative acoustic jam session, they embarked on a musical journey, releasing over a dozen albums. With a blend of Alternative, Folk, Punk, and Americana influences, their live performances are known for their infectious and playfully provocative energy. Missy Alcazar is a professional dueling pianist known for her dynamic performances. She's the first resident female dueling pianist at Disneyland's "Showdown At The Golden Horseshoe" and has had her songs featured on TV shows like "90 Day Fiance." Active in philanthropy, Missy is working on establishing The Melba Foundation to provide free music lessons and instruments to under-resourced communities. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., Show starts at 7:00 p.m. Suggested Donation: $10 (all ages), with all proceeds directly supporting the artists. Donations are encouraged but no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
