Held at the Oceanside Elks Lodge, this vibrant event welcomes all makes and models of cars, trucks, and motorbikes. Come out to browse an incredible lineup of unique vehicles, check out local businesses, and participate in a raffle. Admission is entirely free for spectators.   • Retro Tapestry Weaving 4 weeks | Instructor Lauren Becker Downey Learn to weave! Explore the ins and outs of weaving including proper terminology and methods, how to read weaving drafts and where to buy weaving yarn. Practice plain weave, twills, tapestry, sumac, fringe making and more. Weave traditionally and create four richly textured and tactile samplers of fiber art. This class is designed to focus on learned skills rather than a final product. By the end of this class, you will have the confidence and the skills to weave just about anything on any size or type of loom. A frame loom will be built for you, learn to warp it and practice about a dozen basic weaving techniques. What you learn and practice in this class will equip you with life-long skills to enable you to weave on any loom of any size on your own. There will be homework and the loom is yours to keep. If you already know how to weave, tighten up your skills with more advanced work. Be the envy of all your friends when they see your handcrafted work.   • The SAMAHAN Filipino American Performance Arts & Education Center will present its 39th annual Philippine Cultural Arts Festival on the Presidents Way Lawn along Park Boulevard in Balboa Park at 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, August 22 and on Sunday, August 23. Admission is FREE. This beloved community Festival is made possible through generous grant funding from the Dr. Lolita D. Carter Endowment administered by the San Diego Foundation, support from the County of San Diego Supv. District 4, Community Enhancement Program, and contributions from individual donors. Dubbed SamaFest 2026, the festival is a family-oriented celebration centered on cultural heritage, vibrant entertainment and meaningful networking. Held at a strategic, accessible location in Balboa Park, the festival has consistently attracted a large and diverse crowd of park visitors over the years. It offers San Diego locals as well as tourists a welcoming opportunity to discover and appreciate Philippine culture and performing arts through traditional dances and live music. This two-day event showcases vibrant folk and ethnic dances from various regions of the Philippines, performed by the graceful dancers of SAMAHAN Arts and accompanied by the lively sounds of the SAMAHAN Rondalla, Kulintang and Gangsa (gong) Music Ensembles. Each dance and ethnic ritual is brought to life with colorful, beautifully crafted traditional and regional attire, specially worn for each performance. The festivities also feature mainstream entertainment, including contemporary dance numbers, vocal acts by local guest artists, and thrilling martial arts demonstrations. The milestone evening will bring together supporters, community leaders, alumni, students, and friends of Access Youth Academy to celebrate two decades of impact while raising critical funds to support the organization's mission. Since 2006, Access has empowered underserved students through its long-term commitment to academic support, mentorship, leadership development, college and career readiness, and athletic programming.
