  • The City of Chula Vista’s San Diego FC Soccer Celebrations, presented by Adriana’s Insurance, are wrapping up with one final community watch party on Sunday, July 19, giving the community one last opportunity this summer to cheer on the championship match together. The free celebration will take place at DeVore Stadium on the Southwestern College campus, 900 Otay Lakes Road.   • Join us for an entertaining afternoon while supporting Osher's Theater World, a talented group of theater artists. Comprised of members of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UC San Diego, Theater World brings engaging performances to audiences throughout the year, and your attendance helps sustain future productions and creative opportunities for lifelong learners. This event, inspired by Fran Zimmerman and directed by Herb Hein, will feature 18 songs from around the world performed by an ensemble of singers with piano, drums, guitar, and accordion. Local downtown restaurants will provide some small international delights starting at 1 p.m. There will be limited parking available at the venue for $10, but it is recommended that you take the Blue Line Trolley, which stops right across the street from the venue. You will receive a link to purchase parking in your registration confirmation email. Registration is $25 for this fundraising event and includes admission to the concert and light refreshments. It does not include parking or public transportation. Theater World brings Osher members together to explore the joy of performance through acting, directing, and storytelling.   • **Note special hours for exhibition opening: Saturday, June 27, 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Visions Museum of Textile Art is honored to be one of four U.S. venues to host the "17th Quilt Nihon," making a debut of this internationally recognized exhibition in San Diego. This exhibit features award-winning, innovative works from the biennial competition of the Japanese Handicraft Instructor’s Association (JHIA). Quilt Nihon is the largest international quilt contest in Japan, and one of the most prestigious in the world. For 50 years now, JHIA has promoted handcrafted arts in Japan by educating and training instructors in eight specialties: quilting, knitting, embroidery, lace making, painting, weaving, leatherwork, and flower art. The JHIA boasts 7,000 certified quilt instructors among its 12,000 members. Its biennial Quilt Nihon exhibition is a unique opportunity to appreciate the creativity and complexity of these works of art. This year’s exhibition features award-winning and notable works in its selection.
