Topics to be covered include the differences between pine needle types, preparing the needles, waxed Irish linen, basket centers, embellishing your basket, and how to start and how to finish your basket. Students have the option to weave a basket, a pendant, or an ornament. Basket Weaving is a wonderful way to recycle from nature and is also a meditative activity. No experience necessary. Join in this weaving workshop as we weave intuitively and work together in a space of creativity and openness. Instructor Jeanine Ertl will provide guidance in a variety of Weaving Techniques and will surround you with warped looms to work on, tools to learn with, natural fibers, and foraged and gathered natural objects to incorporate into your weavings. Feel free to bring your own items to weave into your piece, especially if there are any fibers/yarns, stones/crystals, shells, leaves/grasses, etc. that you’d like to experiment with. Each weaver will complete a one-of-a-kind woven textile. We’ll have rods on hand for those who would like to adapt their pieces into wall hangings. And, if you find that you’re in love with the practice, you’ll have an option to purchase the loom you are working with, as well as additional fiber and tools to continue at home. Come explore mindfully making in a space of creativity & harmony with others. In this class you will make a gorgeous, shaped belt bag perfect for your own adventures or gifting. The skills taught in this class include: how to sew darts; sewing a lined welt zip; bias binding; and bag hardware installation. Fabric options will be available, however, feel free to bring heavyweight scraps (denim, velvet, canvas) or vinyl. This bag is highly customizable. An alternative to the webbing strap could be repurposing an old belt, or from a bag you no longer use. Thrift stores are full of interesting belts and hardware to harvest from bags! This class is appropriate for a sewer with knowledge of how to use a sewing machine and sewing basics. NOVO Brazil Brewing Company is celebrating St. Patrick’s Day at its Chula Vista headquarters and taproom on Friday, March 15 starting at 5:30 p.m. Enjoy live music from rock, punk, and blues band The Agents of Apollo until 7:30 p.m. Then at 8 p.m., DJ Qenoe takes over. Food vendors for the evening include San Diego favorite Cali BBQ, along with Rico Rico Snack Bar and El Rey Tacos a Vapor. In addition to (green) beer selections, hard and non-alcoholic kombucha from NOVO’s sister brand NOVA will also be available.
