  • The work of interdisciplinary artist, cultural worker, and educator Andreína Maldonado (aka Nina Limon) is rooted in her experiences as a Venezuelan immigrant, performing artist, and domestic worker. For six years, she has worked with the Latinx community in the San Francisco Mission District to provide art spaces for healing and building relationships through dance, social activism, and performances. During this bilingual and interactive event, Maldonado will present a lecture and performance demonstrating her process of creating "Our Work/Our Dignity," a dance theater piece that featured 13 domestic workers and day laborers performing live music, poetry, and worker testimonies.
  • Dr. Pinar Yoldas discusses her award-winning nature-based design, including her creation, “Hollow Ocean,” which was selected for the 2021 Venice Biennale. Moving beyond prototypes, Pinar Yoldas envisions and builds “ecotypes.” Integrating drawing and sculpture with bio-engineering centered around the climate crisis, Dr. Yoldas works in the mixed realm of architecture, design and speculative biology. Pinar Yoldas is an associate professor at UC San Diego as well as the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Creative Capital Grant and is the author of An Ecosystem of Excess. She works in between architecture, design and the biological sciences, creating a mix of architectural installations, kinetic sculptures and media. Her work has been featured in Arte TV, Die Welt, The Creators Project, Art21 Blog, Der Spiegel, Vogue Turkey and Artlink BioArt issue, to name a few.

  • The Hungry Dog Dash is Back After Biggest Year Ever! The Point Loma High School Cross Country team and PLHS Pointer Association Cross Country Boosters (PLHS PA-XC) are bringing back the Hungry Dog Dash Community 5K race on Sunday, February 11, 2024 at 8 a.m. This flat, fast and fun course at the waterfront park in Liberty Station is a great way to get some fresh air and exercise with family and friends before Super Bowl festivities in the afternoon. The first Hungry Dog Dash was held in 2011 as a fundraiser for the PLHS Cross Country Team. After 2 years off due to Covid, the 11th annual race in 2023 hosted more than 500 participants - the biggest year yet. Runners and walkers of all ages are invited to join - even four-legged friends. The Pointer mascot will be onsite to keep adults, kids and canines company as they run along the water and loop past the USS Recruit. The USATF Certified and Sanctioned Course draws competitors of all levels from the San Diego area racing community to casual first-timers from around the city. Every in-person registrant will receive a high-performance Hungry Dog Dash t-shirt, goodie bag and dog tags.
