Let's move away from the disposable cup and make something that lasts. In this beginner-friendly course, students will learn hand-building techniques—pinch, coil, and slab—to create functional drinking vessels. We will give special attention to coffee cups to encourage students to enhance their own morning coffee rituals; however, any favorite beverage will fit. We will learn to handbuild: mugs (cups with handles) tumblers (cups without handles) espresso cups matching saucers matcha bowls pour over coffee drippers While this is a beginner-friendly course, intermediate and advanced students may join. Students will learn how to: Wedge clay Roll out slabs using a rolling pin and wooden guides Utilize hand-building techniques for form and function Use templates Compress & strengthen clay to reduce air bubbles, cracks, and warping during the drying process Make handles Trim and carve into leather hard clay Apply decoration and texture Glaze vessels and reduce mishaps Materials: Clay will be provided. As summer days shorten, the earliest winter birds arrive. Keen observers may witness small flocks of Phalaropes swimming in dizzy circles in our quiet ponds. As we walk through vibrant fields of yellow goldenbush, we may spot a colorful Argiope spider patiently waiting in the center of her neat, tidy web or an emerald-colored green lynx spider, hidden against the foliage, waiting to ambush a passing bee. Hit the trails with us and enjoy the wonder of nature’s seasonal transition! The event is weather permitting, and wildlife is unpredictable; there is no guarantee of what you will see. Nature Collective is a local conservation and science education nonprofit organization. They work to restore habitats, provide healthier waters, and increase wildlife diversity. Oceanside Theatre Company (OTC) is proud to honor Christopher and Tracy Williams with the third annual Kathy Brombacher Lifetime Theatre Achievement Award and Colleen O’Harra with the second annual Hattie “Sunshine” Brooks Award for their outstanding contributions to the arts in Oceanside, California. The awards will be presented during OTC’s 2025 Gala Celebration, Garden Party Gala, on Saturday, September 21, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at El Corazon Senior Center (3480 Village Commercial Drive, Oceanside, CA 92056). The afternoon celebration will feature live entertainment, refreshments, a silent auction, and a live auction.
