Learn to throw ceramics on a wheel! Sundays, April 13, 20, 27, May 11, from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Learn the fascinating and ancient art form of ceramics with Meg, a full time potter, in this 4-week wheel series. Whether you’re a beginner or intending to deepen your relationship, all are welcome to experience the world of clay in this fun and friendly environment. By focusing on techniques to confidently create functional and aesthetic pottery, we will learn creative design, how to throw on the wheel, trimming and glazing! Projects will be ready to pick up 1-2 weeks after the last class. Beginners welcome. Cindy Lee Berryhill is a California native singer-songwriter, a founder of the New York Antifolk (acoustic punk) movement, and was welcomed into the San Diego Music Hall of Fame in 2024. She has recorded seven albums and is working on her eighth with the same highly-accomplished musicians who will be performing with her at this San Diego Folk Heritage show (Willie Aron, John Kruth, and Renata Bratt). Cindy Lee has toured and performed shows over the years with The Smithereens, Richard Thompson, The Indigo Girls, X, and more. As Spider Robinson explained, “Cindy Lee writes and sings of some of life’s greatest losses and hardest earned gains with terrifying honesty and the courage of an adventurist who survived her adventures.” Los Angeles-based duo Thee Holy Brothers, comprised of Marvin Etzioni, a Grammy-winning producer, and Willie Aron, an in-demand session musician and award-winning songwriter. They were friends for decades before a rabbi at their synagogue saw them dressed in suits and hats and dubbed them “the holy brothers.” After changing “the” to “Thee,” they recorded their debut concept album, "My Name Is Sparkle," whose main character travels to Jerusalem to find God but finds Elvis instead. With twelve solo albums to his credit, John Kruth is a singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist/composer who plays mandolin, guitar, banjo, flute, harmonica, and sitar. John currently leads the six-piece New York based chamber/rock ensemble The Folklorkestra. As a sideman, John has jammed with Laurie Anderson, Violent Femmes, John Prine, King Missile, Hal Willner, Patti Smith, Allen Ginsberg, Elizabeth Swados, Sam Shepard, and Ornette Coleman. Located above the Flower Fields, ArtWalk Carlsbad is back for its 6th year, bringing fine art, live music, and interactive art experiences, offered free to attendees. In a venue overlooking the ocean, guests can explore different facets of art, while enjoying beautiful coastal views. The weekend-long festival focuses on fine art for sale by local artists, as well as those who travel from all over the U.S. and Mexico to show and sell their work. The event will display every medium of art, including painting, sculpture, glass work, fine jewelry, photography and more. More than 150 fine artists’ work will be featured, along with interactive art for families at KidsWalk, a full palette of musical performers, food trucks and stands, and more. The event will be fenced, even though admission is free; the fence allows attendees to enjoy beer and wine (to those 21-years and over), while strolling around the event, rather than having to remain in a Beer Garden. New this year, there will be a pavilion, sponsored by Wilsey Asset Management, to offer shade for the warm early fall weekend. Shelter to Soldier, a nonprofit organization that adopts dogs from local shelters and trains them to become service dogs for post 9/11 veterans suffering from invisible wounds, will host their 13th Annual ‘Be the Light’ Gala presented by SDBotox on August 24 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at L'Auberge Del Mar (1540 Camino Del Mar, Del Mar, CA). The event will raise critical funds for Shelter to Soldier's programs serving our nation's brave veterans and homeless dogs in need of a forever home and life of purpose.
