On Friday, September 26, Songwriter Sanctuary will host three acclaimed artists performing in the round: Jordy Searcy, Gráinne Hunt ft. Jules Stewart, and Joe Summers. About the Artists Gráinne Hunt w/ Jules Stewart: Gráinne Hunt's reputation as a powerhouse performer has landed her on stages alongside U2 and Glen Hasard (who called her "The hardest working woman in Irish music") with opening slots for Gladys Knight and Mary Black. After showcasing at Folk Alliance International in 2024, she secured an 0-1 Visa to cement her presence stateside. She kicked off 2025 showcasing at Celtic Connections and is touring the US presently, before a showcase tour in Australia. She launches her new show "Queer Arrivals" at Liverpool Irish Festival in Oct 2025. She's joined tonight with tourmate and lifemate Jules Stewart, beloved touring and studio drummer known for her stellar work with groups like Billy Nation, Alex Bergan, Please Ask for Paul, Mariela, and more. Joe Summers: Joe Summers is a San Diego songwriter with roots in Folk, Blues, and Soul who mixes these styles to explore the emotions of loss, grief, and growth. He believes that music can help speak things that are hard to grasp with words alone, and that it can help realize our connection with the world around us. Jordy Searcy is an indie-pop singer-songwriter known for heartfelt lyrics, dynamic live performance, and intimate storytelling. Following early national attention from The Voice (season 7), he has released several albums and maintained a rigorous touring schedule, garnering more than 50 million streams and nearly 600,000 monthly Spotify listeners. Please register and attend the Walk for Lives event in San Diego Sept. 20 at 11 a.m. Bear Roots will be leading the San Diego Walk for Lives. Our event, taking place in the Montgomery Waller Park will include a community walk followed by a health fair with speakers, resource booths, a memorial to honor those we have lost and so much more! We also have a special celebrity guest who we will ask to make an announcement soon! The most important thing is simply to show up. Come learn about the dangers of fentanyl and help us demonstrate power in numbers. Registration is free, and everyone is welcome. There’s also an option to purchase a Walk for Lives t-shirt—but that’s totally up to you! If you have an organization that is interested in tabling at this free event, please let me know! We are also looking for food and drink vendors (we will not be charging a vendor fee!) The California Surf Museum is proud to present a unique event held at Oceanside’s Veterans Association of North County acknowledging those who helped launch what became a worldwide phenomenon – skateboarding. “At the dawn of the 1960s, when the waves were flat, surfers were skateboarding,” notes Jim Kempton, Executive Director of the California Surf Museum in making the announcement. “Skateboarding at the time was the ‘boom within the boom’ as interest in both surfing and skateboarding skyrocketed. A development in one informed and advanced the other. This event is designed to celebrate those early years by honoring individuals who helped make it happen long before surfing and skateboarding ascended to become Olympic sports.” This skateboarding bash kicks off at 3 p.m. with cocktails, a silent auction and dinner. Proceeds from the “Rolling from the 60s into the 70s” event supports the work of the California Surf Museum and the Skateboarding Hall of Fame Museum. The highlight of the gathering will be the awards presentation honoring eight individuals with the “Silver Skater Award.” This award is presented by the California Surf Museum to skateboarders who have made significant contributions to the culture, evolution and support of the skateboard community and whose life has also inspired others by their example. Faye Webster loves the feeling of a first take: writing a song, then heading to the studio with her band to track it live the very next day. When you listen to the Atlanta songwriter’s poised and plainspoken albums, you can hear why: she channels emotions that are so aching, they seem to be coming into existence at that very moment. At any given moment, Webster might be making country-tinged indie rock flecked simultaneously by pedal steel guitar and modern R&B production and songwriting techniques–a bespoke sound which has won her ardent fans and turned her into something of a stealth superstar beloved by everyone from southern hip-hop heads and alt-rock tastemakers. The title of Faye Webster's new album, Underdressed at the Symphony, is inspired by her occasional compulsion to lose herself amongst concertgoers at the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. Craving company and distraction but also leaning into the anonymity of a bustling crowd, Webster often bought a ticket to a performance at the last possible second. “Going to the symphony was almost like therapy for me,” she says. “I was quite literally underdressed at the symphony because I would just decide at the last moment that that's what I wanted to do. As we stitch and stuff, I will share stories of healing and celebration as we transform sentimental fabrics into custom keepsakes that honor spatial memories. This workshop teaches the art of repair — a place where every stitch tells a story, and where life’s moments, big and small, are celebrated with love. Depending on the state of your plush or doll, you will learn the skills needed to either work on and finish, or take your item home to continue your desired repairs. It is recommended that you wash your plush toy ahead of time planning for plenty of time for it to dry thoroughly. Use your best judgement on whether it should go in the washing machine or be gently hand washed.
