Kick off your Sunday evening with the first ever Italian Heritage Concert in Little Italy, featuring world-renown Pop Opera singer, Nick Palance! Held in the Piazza della Famiglia, guests will be treated to a performance from the artist known as “The American Boticelli” by critics. Soak in the ambiance of Little Italy's beautiful central Piazza during an upscale evening of buona musica e buona compagnia. Wine and charcuterie will be available for purchase to enhance the experience. Limited number of tickets available. Doors open at 6 p.m., concert takes place from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.

Downtown’s The Whiskey House, which holds the Guinness World Record for Most Varieties of Whiskey, is hosting its October Whiskey Club Event on Wednesday, October 18 with Brother's Bond Bourbon of Fort Smith, Arkansas. The evening begins at 6:00 p.m., and it includes a welcome cocktail (blood orange old fashioned), a 1.5-oz pour of each of the three featured whiskeys (Straight Bourbon, Rye Whiskey, Cask Strength Bourbon), and discussions with a Brother’s Bond representative. Food is also included in the price of admission, and the menu will feature charcuterie, Vietnamese wings, and pork sliders. Tickets are $45 in advance. Walk-ins are also welcome, but the price jumps to $55. In addition to street parking, ABM Parking’s BOSA Island Lot is one block away at 450 2nd Avenue.

Ving Simpson’s intent in creating art is to unfold the inherent nature of something, an idea, a rule, a notion, a person, or a thing, and uncover an artistic understanding of the essence of its existence. He uses his artistic process to edify himself, using what he considers an alternate channel of perception to circumvent the folded (Cartesian, analytic, logical, linguistic) approach to knowledge. Though difficult to describe the process in words, Ving has discovered that a number of topics have yielded to this process. The idea of “numbers” deepens, the quality of “warriors” clarifies, the enigma of “space and time” unravels, and the universe drops some of its inscrutability. Ving uses this artistic frame of mind, where form and color, material and method join with unfolded intent to infiltrate the big questions of life in this big universe of ours. The artwork is what is left over.
