Scent-Sational: Create Your Own Signature Fragrance with a French Perfume Expert and Scent Strip Perfume This workshop is designed to introduce you to the world of perfumery. No previous experience with fragrance making is required. During the workshop, you will create your own signature scent using a variety of essential oils and fragrance notes provided by our French Perfume Designer, Jil Croquet. You will learn about Perfume composition, have fun smelling and enter the very secretive world of Perfume Formulation. You will learn how to blend and balance scents, as well as the basics of perfume making techniques. The Doris A. Howell Foundation is hosting a half-day Summer Symposium with prominent local physicians presenting the latest research findings impacting women’s health. The speakers and women’s health topics include: • Maternal Health – Maryam Tarsa, MD, MAS is a clinical professor in maternal fetal medicine at University of California San Diego. She has participated in the California Maternal Quality Care Coalition in multiple statewide projects including collaborative efforts to decrease cesarean section rate, decrease maternal cardiac morbidity and mortality through prenatal screening algorithms, and prevention of preeclampsia. • Anxiety/Depression – Fadi Joseph Nicolas, MD is chief medical officer for Sharp Behavioral Health. He treats psychiatric and addiction medicine disorders. Dr. Nicolas is Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and the American Board of Preventive Medicine – Addiction Medicine. • Cardiovascular Health – Robert M Stein, MD FAHA, is the medical director of Cardiac Rehab at Palomar Health. This workshop teaches the basics in Stained Glass. No previous glass experience is needed. During the workshop, students will complete a small project using glass they select from a variety of colors and textures. Different patterns are available to choose from. Students will learn how to handle glass, cut and grind glass, apply copper foil, and solder pieces together. Glass is included in the class price and all tools are supplied. With rain expected to continue falling across the area Monday, additional shelter space was opened by the San Diego Housing Commission and the city of San Diego to help the homeless escape the inclement weather.

The City of National City and the National City Host Lions Club will host the annual Fourth of July Carnival at Kimball Park from June 29th – July 4th. The carnival features games, rides, food and drink items for sale by area non-profit organizations, and various entertainment throughout the week including musical acts and contests. Events throughout the week include the Miss National City Pageant and the South Bay’s only inland fireworks display. The schedule for the week is as follows: Friday, June 29th – 5 p.m. - 11 p.m. Saturday, June 30th – 1 p.m. - 11 p.m. (Miss National City Pageant at 7 p.m.) Sunday, July 1st – 1 p.m. - 11 p.m. Monday, July 2nd – 5 p.m. - 11 p.m. Tuesday, July 3rd – 5 p.m. - 11 p.m. Wednesday, July 4th 12 p.m. - Midnight (fireworks at 9 p.m.) On Saturday evening, 6 young ladies will compete in the Miss National City Scholarship Pageant at 7 p.m. on the Kimball Bowl stage.
