Held every summer since 1998, the Carlsbad Village Association’s Art in the Village will return on Sunday, June 22 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. for its 27th year! This one-day, open-air art show brings together 150 local and regional fine artists for a dynamic, coastal-influenced art show. All artwork is juried guaranteeing excellent quality in a wide variety of mediums including oil, watercolor, mixed media, digital, glasswork, photography, woodworking, jewelry, pottery, sculpture, and more. Patrons can interact with the artists in their booths, and all artwork on display is for purchase. Celebrating the dynamic art culture in Carlsbad Village and the surrounding areas, this annual event attracts approximately 10,000 art enthusiasts each year. Starting at 10 a.m., just two blocks from Carlsbad State Beach, attendees can browse vibrant exhibits and meet the artists along State Street and Grand Avenue. Art in the Village also features: • Three musical acts, including live performance art on the State Street Main Stage. • Local sidewalk musicians playing throughout the venue during the day. • Live glassblowing by Barrio Glassworks. • Sculpting with live models by Lieu de Sculpture. • Chalk Zone with live painting by multiple local and regional artists. • Free art making pavilion for children and their families, called "Pop-Up Art: An Interactive Encounter," operated by the City of Carlsbad Cultural Arts. • Face painting for kids. Downtown’s The Whiskey House, which holds the Guinness World Record for Most Variety of Whiskeys Available, is hosting its May Whiskey Club Event on Tuesday, May 27 with Old Pulteney Single Malt Scotch Whisky from the town of Wick on the shores of northeastern Scotland. The Urban Greening Community workshop is an event discussing existing green spaces and planning for the addition of other green spaces, tree spaces, community led maintenance in Southeastern San Diego, specifically for the neighborhoods of Chollas View, Emerald Hills, and Lincoln Park. Join OMA's Artist Alliance at Sparks Gallery for the reception of "Elemental" on Sunday, May 25, from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. OMA's artist alliance is thrilled to present 38 artworks in their third exhibition at Sparks Gallery in San Diego’s historic Gaslamp Quarter downtown. Selected by juror Sonya Sparks, many of the artworks are loosely themed to the title, "Elemental," work that explores the vibrancy and vitality of the core elements—earth, air, fire, and water—that shape the world around us. The exhibition aims to evoke the raw, powerful essence of these elements, revealing their interconnectedness with life and the environment.
