Storyhouse Spirits is located at 1220 J St, San Diego, CA 92101. We will be on the second floor. This bar is located just across the street from the Central Library, to the North East. Some street parking is available downtown, but we recommend utilizing the Central Library's Parking Garage, located on 11th Ave. Parking at the garage is free for 2 hours, with validation within the library. If you plan to use the garage, please remember to get your parking validated inside the library before walking to Storyhouse Spirits. The library will be closed by the time we finish! This class is taught by women to empower women & non-gender conforming individuals in the woodshop. We cover the properties of wood, machine safety, and techniques on the chop saw, including miters, angled cuts, and how to properly cut joinery for them. Other machines will be introduced as well such as the router, biscuit jointer, and drill press. We’ll show you how to properly sand, and finish your piece with an easy, non-toxic, traditional finish. Each attendee will make a wall-hung shelf to take home. No experience necessary. Ages 18+ welcome!

In this workshop, students will learn about the origins of Kintsugi, the Japanese ‘art of golden repair,’ and its meaning as it relates to one’s own life. Instructor Luis Santiago explains, “In these uncertain and crazy times, I believe people can find some solace and comfort in realizing that their so called “scars” and imperfections are things that do not need to be hidden or ashamed of.” While the traditional craft of Kintsugi can take multiple months to complete, mastery in application, and involves toxic lacquer, the techniques used in this workshop to repair two ceramic pieces and embellish these pieces in two distinct Kintsugi-inspired ways brings it to a much wider audience and allows for completion in one workshop. All materials are included. Students will learn two distinct ways of highlighting the breaks of their provided ceramic pieces and will take home a unique piece. Ages 17+ are welcome.
