Join us for more than 70 Gaelic Football, Camogie, and Hurling games played by dozens of teams across the USA and Canada in a one day tournament open to the public. Free admission and parking. Scoring in Hurling, Camogie, and Gaelic Football is by hitting or kicking the ball over the crossbar for one point, or under the crossbar and into the net for three points. Exploring versatile running stitches December 15, from 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Just in time for the holidays, come and create a beautiful purse that can be used as a gift or as a soft pouch for jewelry. We will be using hand-dyed bamboo and wool felt as our canvas. The technique of decorating a fabric surface with running stitches can be found in many cultures and in the scope of this class we’ll focus on two types of stitching: Sashiko, which means “little stabs” in Japanese, and Kantha, which translates to “rags” in Sanskrit. The primary and traditional function of the stitching was: to mend and reuse old but treasured fabric, to gather layers of fabric which then provided warmth and insulation, and/or strengthen the fabric for heavy usage. However, the decorative aspect of this timeless practice became just as important and valued, and its rich “vocabulary” translates into endless pattern variations. This versatile tool allows you to create the thick and thin strokes that define the Blackletter style. Blackletter, also known as Gothic script, is a beautiful and intricate style of calligraphy that has been used since the 12th century. Today, Blackletter remains a popular choice for tattoos, certificates, logos and various forms graphic design. Instructor: Eric Strenger Who should attend?
