The devastation of the LA fires impacted so many people, and the recovery path for families with special needs is even more daunting. TERI has learned that over 240 homes burned within L.A.’s special needs community, and as a response, has put together a community event to raise funds for our neighbors up north. On February 1, TERI will host a benefit concert to help support special needs families impacted by the LA fires. Restoring Hope: A Benefit Concert for Special Needs Families will take place at The Bornemann Theatre, located at TERI Campus of Life, and will begin at 3:30 p.m. 100% of proceeds from the benefit concert will support three L.A. Regional Centers working directly with families with kids, adults, and seniors with special needs. Tickets for the concert can be purchased online and are $50 for general admission and $75 for front row seating. TERI Common Grounds Café will be open for lunch, dinner and concessions stands during the concert. Working with mid fire clay, we will explore various methods of building forms and decorative techniques with glazes. Students will complete various projects throughout the course, learning the basics of clay materials and handbuilding — skills necessary to work independently in open studio. Students will be able to utilize a wide array of glazes and colors. All materials provided. The Black Family Wellness Expo is part of a nationwide initiative by The Links, Incorporated. The aim is to improve outcomes for Black families across the United States. During our "adults only" Chocolate Making Classes you will learn, create, eat and laugh! Our hands-on chocolate making classes are about 1 ½- 2 hours long and limited to 12 students. There you will learn the basics of working with chocolate, create your own bark, molded chocolates and more. During class, students will play with favorite flavors like salted caramel and peanut butter cup and select monthly themed flavors made by chocolatier Michelle Lomelin. Students will also select from more than two dozen ingredients as they personalize a chocolate bark – with favorite flavors including freeze dried fruits and savory pretzels, potato chips and a wide selection of nuts. In honor of Earth Week (April 16-22), and Earth Day (April 22), Nature Collective will host an all-inclusive habitat restoration event. All are invited to join and sponsor a plant. Presented by Nature Collective and The Queer Sol Collective, San Diegans are invited to a day of re-establishing our relationship with nature and building community. Participants will work together to plant native plants at San Elijo Lagoon while restoring the symbiotic relationships between the individual and the land. This event will offer a talking circle, a place of safety, discovery, healing, and wellness, and a nature tour celebrating the planet’s inherent queerness as we celebrate Earth Day today and every day. This 2SLGBTQ+-focused event is open to everyone; the queer community is especially encouraged to attend and come together, cultivate, and create a more sustainable, positive, and inclusive environment for all. Suggested donations of $5.00 to support a single seed growing into a thriving plant, $10.00 to help a young plant being cared for in a San Diego Garden where learning unfolds, or $25.00 to support The Queer Sol Collective’s Engaging Communities education program. San Elijo offers an extravaganza of birds, many of which are seasonal visitors. On this tour, we are likely to discover lots of waterfowl playing hide-and-seek with us among the lagoon waters. We may find mushrooms along the way. We will also visit four distinct plant communities at Harbaugh Seaside Trails and learn more about the wildlife that these plant communities support.
