  • Learn the fundamentals of sewing! Sundays, Sept 7, 14, 21, 28, Oct 5 & 12, 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. In this 6-week sewing series, you will learn the fundamentals as you work through and develop new skills while learning to spread and cut your own customized apron. You will learn how to operate and thread the sewing machine. And each week, you will learn a basic sewing skill to apply to your apron–such as sewing and pressing seams, sewing darts, setting gathers. Each student can design the Apron by working in a fabric of their choice. 100% Cotton is required. You are welcome to bring your own sewing machine to use in this series, however it is highly recommended that you take your machine in for servicing before class if you are new to sewing to be sure the machine is in working order, especially if it is not a new machine. Please also bring an instruction manual for your machine. If it is determined that your machine is not ready and in working order, you will be welcome to use our in-studio sewing machines for class. A ‘suggested supplies’ list will be distributed in the first week of class. No experience necessary. In this 3-hour workshop, we will create a marine landscape by layering and felting wool, as well as blending colors together. The addition of yarns will add texture and hues to your creation. Ocean and sunset make wonderful subjects for needle paintings! This class requires the use of sharp needles and you will be provided with fingers guards. No experience necessary. Ages 12+ welcome. Start by pinching a clay bowl to form the bell’s body, then roll and shape a slab to craft the clapper. Add textures, playful details, and your own creative touch to make it uniquely yours. Whether you’re a beginner or just looking for a new way to unwind, this open studio setting is a great chance to get your hands messy, meet new people, and let your creativity ring out.   • Preserve Greater Golden Hill to Host “March & Roll” in South Park Family-Friendly Event Aims to Spark Conversation About Housing Policies On Sunday, September 7 at 11:30 a.m. at the 28th Street Playground in South Park, neighbors from the South Park and Golden Hill communities will gather for a “March & Roll”—an inclusive, lively, family-friendly walk-ride-and-roll event designed to bring neighbors together, raise awareness, and start conversations about how current state and local housing legislation is affecting the safety, affordability, livability, and future of San Diego’s neighborhoods. The event will begin in South Park, where participants can meet, mingle, and decorate their walking shoes, strollers, scooters, bicycles, and wagons. At noon, the group will follow a set route through the neighborhood, showcasing community spirit and solidarity while enjoying South Park’s tree-lined streets and historic charm. Organizers say the goal is not just to voice concerns but to encourage informed dialogue about how to balance growth with preserving what makes each neighborhood unique.
