  • "Lend Me a Soprano" is a fast-paced, laugh-out-loud comedy, set in 1934 when glamour, egos, and high notes rule the opera world. The Cleveland Opera Company is buzzing with anticipation for a sold-out performance starring their internationally renowned diva. But when the temperamental soprano finally arrives (hours late) she brings with her a jealous husband, a fiery personality, and enough drama to rival anything happening onstage. As tempers flare and misunderstandings spiral out of control, the company’s carefully planned evening begins to unravel in spectacular fashion. With doors slamming, disguises flying, and identities constantly mistaken, the women step into the spotlight in this hilarious, high-energy twist on Ken Ludwig’s classic farce "Lend Me a Tenor." A sparkling screwball comedy where the stakes are high, the egos are higher, and the laughs come at a breakneck pace. By the final curtain, audiences will be wiping away tears -not from tragedy, but from pure, unstoppable laughter. • When a police officer is found dead in her home with a bullet between her eyes, who investigates?

Both Ciara Estrada and her boyfriend were San Diego police officers. They went with friends to a New Year’s Eve party. Pictures from that night show the smiling couple. The next day, Ciara was dead … discovered on her bathroom floor with her gun in her lap.

Her own department investigated the death and quickly ruled it a suicide. Investigators, who were her colleagues, made no arrests. Identified no suspects.

But her family says there’s more to her story – tragic circumstances that should have prompted a more thorough investigation. They don’t think the police dug deep enough into the death of one of their own.

  • Shelter to Soldier will host its 7th Annual Saving Lives, "One Swing at a Time" Golf Tournament, presented by Frontwave Credit Union, on Friday, April 24, at Singing Hills Golf Club at Sycuan, located at 3007 Dehesa Road in El Cajon. The annual fundraiser supports the nonprofit’s mission of rescuing dogs from local shelters and training them as service dogs for post-9/11 veterans living with PTSD, traumatic brain injury, military sexual trauma, and other service-related injuries. Held on the scenic, championship Willow Glen Golf Course, golfers of all skill levels will enjoy a fun afternoon featuring games, competitions, and prizes. Registration opens at 10 a.m., followed by a 12 p.m. shotgun start. Participants will be treated to a boxed sandwich lunch, beverages and spirits sponsored by Mike Hess Brewing Co., event swag bag, and a delicious dinner reception and awards ceremony following the tournament. Proceeds from the tournament directly support Shelter to Soldier’s lifesaving programs for both veterans and rescue dogs. An average of 18 U.S. veterans and one active-duty service member are lost to suicide each day in our country, while approximately 1,000 dogs are euthanized daily in the U.S. Shelter to Soldier, whose tagline is “Saving Lives, Two at a Time,” works to reduce these numbers by bringing trained rescue dogs together with wounded veterans to help both recover and move forward through their psychiatric service dog training program. This year’s Golf Tournament fundraising goal is $65,000. The 7th Annual Saving Lives, "One Swing at a Time" Golf Tournament is proudly presented by Frontwave Credit Union and supported by Sycuan Casino Resort and Summit Subaru El Cajon, Albatross Sponsors, and UNITE Hair, an Eagle Sponsor. Sponsorship opportunities and tickets are available now. Single golfer registration is $310, and foursomes are $1,200.
