Get ready for playtime and have fun making custom paper toys. A few templates will be provided and printed on cardstock. Choose your favorite(s) and illustrate a character or color the template with a pattern or design. We’ll cut, fold, and adhere the designs together to make finished 3D paper toys for display or play. No experience necessary. Scissors can be used in lieu of a craft knife. Materials: The materials fee includes cardstock paper, paper toy template prints, self-healing mat, craft knife, metal ruler, bone folder, tape, glue, and a sample of colored pencils/markers. Optional but recommended: Bring your own favorite markers, pens, pencils, and/or colored pencils if you have a favorite set. We will be using light cardstock paper. The Comic-Con art show is open to the public. You do not need a badge to come in and enjoy, or purchase artwork. However, everyone entering the art show is expected to comply with all terms and conditions expected of our attendees. You’ll see numerous original drawings, paintings, sculptures, pieces of jewelry, and more “unusual” items, all created and displayed by professional and amateur artists. For your convenience, the Art Show is open one hour after the Exhibit Hall closes on Thursday, Friday, and Sunday to make it easier to bid on or pick up your art. The Hausmann Quartet and Maritime Museum of San Diego are excited to partner to present the ninth season of Haydn Voyages: Music at the Maritime, a quarterly concert series performed aboard one of the Museum’s historic world-class vessels, the 1898 steam ferryboat Berkeley that operated for 60 years on San Francisco Bay. All concerts are Sundays at 2:30 p.m., and include an intermission for a total length of under two hours. Each creative program will also include informative and entertaining commentary between selections from noted UC Santa Barbara musicologist Derek Katz. This program also asks us to consider the context of its creation, as the opening Haydn quartet (opus 55, no. 2 “Razor”) is followed by Victor Ullmann’s third string quartet, written in 1943 in the Theresienstadt concentration camp. The second half features Gabriela Smith’s raucous Carrot Revolution, and the ninth season ends in epic fashion with Beethoven’s final work, his Quartet in F Major, opus 135. August 10th 2024 from 11am-5pm. This event is all ages, free to the public. We have 65 exhibitors from the San Diego-Baja region with an emphasis on zine makers and vinyl/cassette vendors, as well as the SD Central Library exhibiting their zine collection and printing library cards. Why: Burn All Books and Particle FM are teaming up to present another zine and music fair, with zine exhibitors, DJs, and vinyl vendors from the SD-Baja region and beyond. Inspired by radio/zine collaborations like NYC's 8ball Radio, COMPRESSED was created to bring together our music and independent publishing community in a compressed, intimate space. COMPRESSED will have various art, vinyl, zine vendors with Particle FM DJs playing music. During the year we keep COMPRESSED alive with workshops that bring in speakers from orgs like the Lambda Archives of San Diego, speaking on the topic of the history of queer zine culture in San Diego. This event is completely volunteer run with people from Burn All Books and Particle FM. About Burn All Books: Burn All Books is a risograph publisher, distro, and studio in San Diego, California. Focused on community and collaboration, we work with San Diego and Tijuana, MX based artists, writers and creators to produce zines, artists’ books, alternative comics, and art prints. Through the accessibility and versatility of risograph printing, Burn All Books has become an avenue for promoting and publishing alternative art as resources from and for the people. As of January 2023 we have published over 35 publications and worked with over 100 artists, writers and zine makers since beginning in October 2017.
