In celebration of our designation as a California Cultural District, Arts District Liberty Station presents Summer Arts Fest on the North Promenade on June 13 from 2–8 p.m. for an unforgettable day celebrating art, creativity, and community. Hosted by Arts District Liberty Station, this one-day festival brings together the incredible artists of Liberty Station and art lovers from across San Diego for a vibrant, open-air celebration. Spend the day exploring in-studio workshops, live painting demonstrations, and a curated art market featuring local artists and one-of-a-kind work. Bach Collegium San Diego (BCSD), one of the country's leading baroque ensembles, closes out the calendar year with its beloved annual tradition, Handel's Messiah, presented in both English and Spanish. Messiah springs to life in both languages, this beloved oratorio continues to relish the holiday tradition. The run opens with a special performance marking the release of BCSD's El Mesías Spanish-language recording. The performance was offered as a charity event for the relief of prisoners, in support of Mercer’s Hospital, and to aid the Charitable Infirmary. There is a long-standing myth that King George II was so touched by the “Hallelujah” chorus that he rose to his feet, with the crowd following suit. Audiences today routinely stand during the “Hallelujah” chorus, as a tip of the hat to this legend. Bach Collegium San Diego engages audiences with accessible, historically informed performances and educational programs featuring repertoire from the Renaissance, Baroque, and early Classical eras. Some of the jazz industry’s top voices (Trist Curless, Genevieve Artadi, and Michael Mayo) come together to sing the music of one of the most beloved jazz vocal groups—Lambert, Hendricks, and Ross (LH&R). This stunning live show is a tribute to LH&R classics, as well as individual performances that perpetuate the art of vocalese, as mastered by vocalist Jon Hendricks.
