Her book has been reviewed by more than 60 publications and websites, internationally lauded for its original research and revelations into Dora and Kafka's lives.   • From the KPBS weekend arts preview: North County-based contemporary dance company, Mojalet Dance Collective, will perform two works in their first performance of the year, both choreographed by Mojalet's artistic director Faith Jensen-Ismay. "Tainted" is a choreographic look at the abuse of power and the darker side of politics.   • PHES Gallery to Host the David Zapf Collection. Until it closed in 2006, the David Zapf Gallery was a central hub in the San Diego arts community. Occupying the ground floor of 2400 Kettner Blvd. Art complex, he was well known and loved by the artists, and he represented some of the best including: David Baze, DeLoss McGraw, Lynne Schuette, Anne Mudge, Philipp Scholz Rittermann, and many more. Before his recent passing he specifically requested that his personal art collection should be sold to benefit his family. The Phes Gallery in Carlsbad Village is honored to host this show and sale of paintings, prints, photographs, and sculpture. Artists include David Baze, Johnny Coleman, DeLoss McGraw, and Philipp Scholz Rittermann. The full catalog is pending and will be available on our website. All proceeds go to the family.   • The Art-A-Thon exhibit is our biggest annual showcase celebrating ArtHatch, a charity providing free art classes, workshops and studio space to teenagers. Every year, our roster of notable artists creates original artworks in a 24 hour marathon that are then auctioned off in support of our program. We host an opening reception to kick off the exhibit!   • Spring Harp Fest promotes understanding and appreciation of the harmonica and endeavors to pass love of the harmonica on to the next generation. Founded in 1999 by Harmonica John Frazer, Chet Cannon and Budd Willis, the Spring Harp Fest was created to promote, this American artform, the blues harmonica. This event remains a first of it's kind for San Diego County where everyone involved; from webmaster, to set-up crew, from sound man, to musicians, MC to clean up crew, and all points in between; volunteers time, talent and expertise, working together to build a better future. Every year, we hold a festival during Easter weekend, and some of Southern California's finest harmonica players perform at our Spring Harp Fest. The Spring Harp Fest is a family-friendly, outdoor event located at Harry Griffen Park in La Mesa, California. There will be a $20 suggested donation requested upon entering the festival. Everyone is invited to pack a frisbee or hula hoop for the kids, water, sunscreen, blanket or beach chair. Join us for another good old fashioned afternoon in the park. This workshop is designed for individuals interested in learning the art of lettering. We will start the class by learning basic lettering principles and utilize Posca pens to learn 2 different lettering styles: sans serif and script. By the end of the workshop, you will have the chance to personalize your own journal cover, applying the techniques learned throughout the session.   • Illume/Warwick’s: An Evening with Anna Quindlen The USD College of Arts and Sciences and Humanities Center, along with Warwick’s bookstore, will host best-selling author Anna Quindlen as she discusses her new novel, "After Annie" New York Times Bestseller and Pulitzer Prize winning columnist at The New York Times, is the author of many novels including Lots of Candles, Plenty of Cake; A Short Guide to a Happy Life and Object Lessons. Her latest novel, After Annie, is a story that ends with hope, a beautiful novel about family, friendship and the ties that bind us. When Annie Brown dies suddenly, her husband, her children, and her closest friend are left to find a way forward without the woman who has been the lynchpin of all their lives. At the center of this novel is the power of love to transcend loss and triumph over adversity. Quindlen will be in discussion with Jillian Tullis, PhD, professor of communications.
