The biggest event in classical music returns to San Diego June 20-29. The Mainly Mozart All-Star Orchestra Festival, led by Maestro Michael Francis, is the largest gathering of concertmasters and principal players from the nation’s top orchestras, who come together in San Diego every summer to form one remarkable orchestra for a limited six-concert series. This year, the orchestra will return to two La Jolla venues where it first held performances in 2023: the UC San Diego Epstein Family Amphitheater and The Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center. “We are delighted to return to these two outstanding venues,” said Michael Francis, music director and conductor of the All-Star Orchestra. “Last year's concerts at UC San Diego’s Epstein Family Amphitheater were a real highlight for all of us and The Conrad has truly earned its reputation as one of the country’s great chamber music halls.” Featuring musicians from top U.S. orchestras including the New York Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony, Cleveland Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra and more, Mainly Mozart’s All-Star Orchestra is the only orchestra of its kind in the country. The San Diego Independent Scholars (SDIS) is proud to present a Works in Progress event led by Grace Johnson on March 21st at 1 p.m. at the North University Community Library. Grace Johnson is a Curator Emerita of Latin American Collections at the San Diego Museum of Man (now named Museum of Us). Johnson graduated with a BA in the Department of Anthropology and a MA in the Department of Latin American Studies from San Diego State University. She wrote the book Hecho en Mexico: Mexican Folk Art based on an exhibition she created while working at the Museum of Man. Stephanie Bergsma worked at KPBS from 1982 to 2012. As associate general manager, Bergsma was responsible for major gifts, production underwriting, Gays and Lesbians for Public Broadcasting affinity group and the Producers Club. Her greatest achievements include raising the funds to build the KPBS Copley Telecommunications Center and funding all of the equipment including the HDTV conversion pieces.

A local environmental group is preparing to take the International Boundary and Water Commission to court over repeated failures to corral the San Diego region's cross-border sewage problem. The situation may lead to the revival of other lawsuits settled a year ago.

The 46th Annual World Bodysurfing Championships: August 19–20, 2023 Beachsport.org announces the 46th Annual World Bodysurfing Championships to be held adjacent to the Oceanside Pier from August 19–20. Approximately 350–400 bodysurfers from around the world compete in their respective age divisions for trophies and prizes. The Men and Women's Grand Champions will be crowned on Sunday afternoon, the final day. The contest is projected to start at 6:30 a.m. each morning. Prelims for all age divisions will be held on Saturday. All semifinals and finals will run on Sunday. WBC reserves the right to change the projected schedule based on the actual number of applications received.
