Explore Handbuilding with Clay Friday, June 6, 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. Ages 12+ welcome! Join us for the return of Clay Happy Hour! It’s a fun and creative evening of exploring the world of ceramics, getting your hands in clay and meeting new people. In this open studio time you are welcome to drop-in whenever you’re available during the 2-hour time listed. In this Happy Hour, you’ll learn hand-building techniques to create a spoon rest, perfect for adding a personal touch to your kitchen. Play around with textures, details, and shapes. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced crafter, this hands-on evening offers the opportunity to try something new and express your creativity. All materials are provided, and you’ll get to take home your handmade creations after they’re fired and ready for pick-up in 2-3 weeks. Grab a friend, enjoy some clay therapy, and discover the joy of crafting with clay! Just be sure to arrive before Clay Happy Hour ends at 7 p.m. so you have enough time to complete your project! Tired of giving soap or socks to honor the father(s) in your life? Make a personal card to honor your father(s) and gift it! In this workshop, we use tarot cards to explore fatherhood’s energy. We will celebrate our relationship to fathers and fatherhood through writing and a collage project, with room to explore challenging connections and what we’ve learned from them, including looking at connections forged with chosen family as well as blood family. The simple tarot journaling process we will use will help you discover and uncover your connection to fathering energy and how it can best nurture you. And if you wish, create personal tarot card art you can keep for yourself (your Inner Father) or a card for your actual father or person who fathered you. Bring an open heart, paper and pencil, and some photos of the father you are honoring (photos of you or your father(s)), and any images you feel express the gifts and lessons of that relationship. Please feel free to bring your own tarot deck(s) though your instructor will provide a variety of tarot images. Remember you can point the arrow of this inquiry towards your own father, or towards yourself in the role you play with your children or those you parent. Stretch Affect, known for their concierge physical therapy and movement optimization, is throwing a Grand Opening Fundraiser this Sunday May 18 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at their new 10,000-square-foot facility in Sorrento Mesa (9945 Pacific Heights Blvd, San Diego, CA 92121). The event aims to raise $50,000 for the Challenged Athletes Foundation and will feature a Paralympian guest speaker, and a live auction boasting signed sports memorabilia, training packages, travel getaways, and more to further help propel fundraising efforts. The fundraiser will also include demonstrations of wheelchair tennis and racing, and hands-on access to state-of-the-art fitness and recovery technology—including DEXA scans, 3-D motion capture from Kinotek, and interactive showcases by Blazepod, Gibbons, Matrix, and Hyperice. Families can enjoy a kid-friendly zone with inflatables and games, while attendees can explore supercars from Fast Lane Drive, sample food from Glass Box, and receive water bottles from Fill-It-Forward to support clean water initiatives worldwide.
