Revision is a participant of San Diego Design Week, offering workshops centered around the use of reclaimed materials as tools to repair and build communal structures together. This Free exhibition displays the works of remade furniture created with our technique of wicker "kintsugi" after the week long experience. Revision Gallery has 3 large workspaces which will also display various woven works of the Artists in Residence, who are Artists with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities; sculpture by local artisans, and several pieces by Revision Director + Artist Joy Boe, which explore the intersection of scrap materials and domestic workers. Join us at the birthplace of the sport for the XTERRA Wetsuits Mission Bay Triathlon! In 1974, the first Mission Bay Triathlon was as a run-bike-swim-run event on Fiesta Island by the San Diego Track Club. This is an ON Road Triathlon. This is the 37th annual XTERRA Wetsuits Mission Bay Triathlon benefitting Life Sports Foundation. San Diego is the Birthplace of Triathlon! In 1974, the first Mission Bay Triathlon was as a run-bike-swim-run event on Fiesta Island by the San Diego Track Club. Every year competitors from around the country and from around the world, came to Mission Bay to celebrate the birthplace triathlon. The event offers races for adults and kids, from complete beginners to seasoned Professionals. There are many different races going on simultaneously, and while a traditional Triathlon is Swim / Bike / Run, KOZ Events, the organizer of the San Diego Triathlon Series, offers more of a Multisport Race. Our race is very inclusive and we make triathlon accessible to as many people as possible. We have the traditional Swim/bike/ Run Triathlon but we offer so much more. If you do not like swimming, we have the Duathlon which is a Run/ Bike/ Run, if you don’t want to bike then choose the Aquathlon Swim / Run, or if you don’t want to run choose the Aquabike Swim/Bike. We even have a Mini Distance Triathlon for beginners that want to try out the sport. This FREE symposium will explore, how, at a global level, Homo sapiens have reshaped the planet Earth to such an extent that we now talk of a new geological age, the Anthropocene. But each of us shapes our own worlds, physically, symbolically, and in the worlds of imagination. This symposium focuses especially on one form of construction, the construction of buildings, while stressing that such construction is ever shaped by diverse factors from landscape to culture and the construction of history embodied in it - and more. After a brief look at birds building their nests as an example of variation on a species-specific Bauplan, we sample a broad sweep of cultural evolution and niche construction from the earliest stone tools of Neanderthals and Homo sapiens through the Neolithic and the rise of cities to the formal and informal architecture of the present day. Finally, we explore the ways artificial intelligence may further change how humans construct their mental and physical worlds. Attend in person at the Conrad T. Friday, November 1, 2024 4 p.m. - 6 p.m. Jared Padilla-Elliott (assemblage) PEEC for TEENS (13–18 years old) PEEC is a free program for teens, who are interested in art-making as an enrichment activity that goes beyond making crafts. The aim of the program is to provide a space for youth to create art, share stories, collaborate, explore, and identify new ways to use art in their lives. The Athenaeum offers facilities, resources, guidance, instruction, and support. The open studio program includes a rotation of multidisciplinary art instructors offering workshops in their respective fields, as well as curricular activities that involve the use of the Athenaeum library resources as a starting point for projects. Activities include drawing, painting, research, and introduction to various media. The program is free and teens can register by clicking the “REGISTER” button below. The FACE Foundation hosts its’ 12th Invitational Dog-Friendly Golf Tournament, Monday, Oct. 16 from 11:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the beautiful Fairbanks Country Club in Rancho Santa Fe. Guests and supporters will enjoy a day of golf with their furry friends followed by dinner, drinks, live music by Mexican CC, a live and silent auction, and an exciting awards ceremony, all to support FACE’s programs, including its Save-a-Life program. The event will directly benefit pets facing economic euthanasia – a reality that occurs when families are unable to afford life-saving treatment for their critically injured or ill pet.
