She was inducted into the San Diego Music Hall of Fame in 2018, has had a day named after her by the city of San Diego in 2008, and has won numerous San Diego Music Awards for her bands and albums. She has recorded over 12 albums under her own name, securing an international award from The International Blues Challenge (IBC) in Memphis for Best Self Produced Album (Sophisticated Ladies). She was the beehive wearing music director and longtime pianist for blues diva Candye Kane, through the 90s, appearing on many of her albums, touring world wide (France, Germany, England, The Czech Republic, Turkey, South Africa, Australia, and more) as well as all over the US and parts of Canada. Sue has also toured Switzerland, Russia, The Netherlands, and Argentina under her own name. She had a radio show for 3 years on San Diego's local Jazz station KSDS 88.3FM, and now hosts a podcast called "The Motel Swing Happy Hour KSUE San Diego." The San Diego Diplomacy Council is excited to announce the 2024 Global Leadership Youth Program (GLYP), a summer enrichment program designed for high school students passionate about global issues and leadership. Running from June 24 to July 19, 2024, the program will cover critical topics such as environmental sustainability, 21st century peacebuilding, and universal dignity. Participants will benefit from guest speakers, diplomacy simulations, group projects, and cultural activities. The Soul Rebels Announce Spring Tour Dates with Special Collaboration The Soul Rebels, the renowned New Orleans-based brass ensemble known for their electrifying blend of jazz, funk, and hip hop, announced their highly anticipated spring tour dates. The 11-city tour, which kicks off May 3rd at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, is followed by performances across the United States, with special collaborations in Philadelphia, Washington, DC, and New York City. Several tour stops feature iconic guest artists, including Ghostface KIllah, GZA, Talib Kweli, Seun Kuti, Chris Dave, Fred Wesley, and Marcus Miller. Commenting on the upcoming tour, The Soul Rebels’ manager, Alex Kurland, emphasized their commitment to working with the best in the industry. Cobby Brzeski is a multi-genre, multi-instrumental musical artist and songwriter originally from Naples, Florida, and is now based in San Diego, CA. Cobby’s firm grasp of harmony, playful melody writing, and charming voice has created new fresh new environment for jazz to shine once again. While mainly focused on Jazz in the Swing Idiom, Cobby’s is equally versed in a wide variety of musical genres ranging from Indie-Acoustic, R&B, Pop, etc.. Described as a vintage girl in a modern world, Cobby’s music possesses a natural gift for sensitive, relatable storytelling and is a blend of influences from Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Helen Forrest, The Andrew Sisters and others, twisted with modern influences like Jason Mraz, Cyrille Aimee, and Post Modern Jukebox. Zo is 34 years old and has been a performing guitarist for 12 years. He has been teaching people how to play and understand the guitar/piano for four years. Born in London, he was raised in North County, San Diego, where he currently resides. He is a graduate of CSULB with a degree in Jazz Guitar Performance, and during his time there he studied Blues, Pop, Rock, Soul, Funk, Classical, and Irish Folk Music. While at CSULB he joined an Irish Folk Band, and started his own Blues band along with vocalist Christina Wilson. He’s studied under many influential guitarists across the country. In Los Angeles, Ron Eschete and Mike Higgins. In New York, Peter Mazza, Gilad Hekselman, and Michael Valeanu. Finally, in San Diego he studied with Bob Boss, Lorraine Castellanos, Fred Kunze. These experiences have prepared him for large ensembles, quintets, quartets, trios, duos, and solo guitar performances in a variety of styles. Our three-day festival highlights BIPOC, women, and queer artists and wellness practitioners based in San Diego. We collaborate with them to build our festival program that includes creative expression classes (dance, creative writing, visual arts), wellness workshops (yoga, meditation, sound healing), and performances (musicians, singers, DJs, spoken word artists, dancers). Learn the easiest way to paint beautiful florals and garden friends using the simple technique of brushstroke painting! It all comes down to exactly how to load your brush and then apply that to your surface. I will show you how to get that opaque look using a series of basic strokes that you build up together to get one cohesive look. In this class, you will learn how to use a Round 2 brush for every stroke. We will practice on my special reusable worksheets, and then move on to our project surface of tiny canvases to create magnets that will showcase your work.
