Paul Combs holds a B.Mus. in composition from the Philadelphia Musical Academy and a M.M. in performance at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. His eclectic career has included performing, composing for theater, film radio and television, and producing and announcing at radio stations in Philadelphia and Boston. From 1986 to 1999 he worked full-time in music education. As a music education activist he was a founding member and two-term Chair of the Society for General Music in Massachusetts (SGMM), and later sat on the Board of the Massachusetts Association for Jazz Education (MAJE). “Paul plays heavenly alto.” Valerie Ridenour – Key West, The Newspaper Most recently Mr. Combs taught wind instruments privately and was on the faculty of the Lowell Jazz Day Camp. He also directed the Jazz Ensemble of the Chelmsford Community Band. Finest Art Showcase San Diego is a unique fine art juried exhibition featuring distinctive and beautiful artworks by numerous talented artists from around the world in a lovely San Diego waterfront setting. Artists and patrons will mingle and enjoy an evening of art, wine (21+), lite bites, and tasteful musical accompaniment provided by musicians from San Diego's Villa Musica. A portion of each ticket sale will go to Villa Musica, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, to support their community musical education initiatives. This upscale event brings a delightful summer evening of fine art enjoyment and the opportunity for art collectors to have the first crack at acquiring rare finds in the exhibition. Ticket holders are granted exclusive access to view and purchase the artworks in the show on the Art Scene West online gallery beginning on June 1st, but purchased artworks cannot be released until the conclusion of the live event on June 29th. Maritime Museum of San Diego, home to one of the world’s largest collections of historic vessels, fascinating exhibits, and on-the-water adventure guest experiences, will host the 5th Annual Oceanography Merit Badge Days Saturdays 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 15, July 27 and Aug. 10, 2024. Scouts BSA youth may enroll to earn their Oceanography Merit Badge through participation in one of three Saturday classes at the Maritime Museum of San Diego. Scouts must complete one class to earn their Oceanography Merit Badge so participants can choose the date that works for them. The program gives local scouting youth the opportunity to more deeply explore the ocean that is so integral to the San Diego community. By combining field work, laboratory observation, and scholarly discussion, Oceanography Merit Badge Days at the Maritime Museum of San Diego allow scouts to become fully immersed in the multiple branches of oceanographic research. An OMB Days scouting parent participant shared their enthusiasm for the program stating, “Several of our troop scouts thoroughly enjoyed working on the Oceanography MB at the Maritime Museum. You could not ask for a better venue that allowed the kids to be out of a typical classroom environment. Scouts sure did enjoy hands-on experiences, exploring the museum and engaging with the great counselors." Each scout or group of scouts are required to be accompanied by a parent or adult chaperone. All Scouts BSA Youth Protection guidelines must be followed at any event with registered Scouts present. Reservations must be done online in advance at sdmaritime.org. The San Diego Natural History Museum (The Nat) is celebrating their 150 th birthday and pulling out all the stops for a summer to remember for nature lovers. Featuring brand-new exhibits and films, special programs and activities, and extended hours, Summer of Wonder has something for everyone. Summer of Wonder takes place from Memorial Day weekend (Friday, May 24) through Labor Day weekend (Monday, September 2).
