Over the course of eight sessions, students will begin their journey into Yiddishland, exploring both the language and get a taste of its rich culture. The course begins with learning to read and write the alef-beys (alphabet). From there, students will soon be ready to read selections from Yiddish literature, sing traditional Yiddish folksongs, and practice everyday expressions. Students will learn how to introduce themselves, share their stories, and describe their personal connections to Yiddish. All learning materials will be provided by the teacher. He has studied Yiddish at University College London, and courses in Tel Aviv, Berlin and Paris. He has led Yiddish poetry courses online for Babel’s Blessing Language School and in-person workshops at the Shtetl Berlin Festival, the Maison de la Culture Yiddish and the Yiddish Sof-Vokh UK, which he also helps to organise. He teaches at the summer programme ‘Ot Azoy’ and recently completed a pedagogy fellowship at the Yiddish Book Center (Amherst, MA). The Navy’s 38th Annual Bay Bridge Run/Walk is hosted by the Navy Region Southwest Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Program. The unique 4-mile run/walk has a one-of-a-kind spectacular panoramic view as participants make their way to Coronado’s beautiful Tidelands Park from downtown San Diego over the Coronado Bay Bridge. During the finish line celebration, runners receive a Finisher’s medal, event T-shirt, and enjoy sponsor booths. Plus, all participants are eligible for drawing prizes and complimentary transportation back to downtown. This is a sanctioned USAT&F 4-mile course. Our start line is at One Park Blvd. at Harbor Dr. between the Hilton San Diego Bayfront and the San Diego Convention Center. The course travels south along Harbor Dr. to Cesar E. Chavez Pkwy. Participants head east to National Ave., then up and over the Coronado Bay Bridge. The race finishes in Coronado’s Tidelands Park. Expect flat streets, an incline up the bridge and a decline down the bridge. Walkers are encouraged to bring cameras to take some great photos of San Diego and Coronado from on top of the bridge! Baby strollers, wheelchairs and guide dogs are permitted. Skateboards, bikes, in-line skates, race wheelchairs and pets (with the exception of service animals) are prohibited. All participants must be on the bridge by 8:45 a.m., approximately 1 mile, to allow for the reopening of traffic lanes. The La Mesa Village Association's (LMVA) 10th Annual Holiday in the Village event brings the holiday cheer with enhanced holiday traditions that are fully immersed in La Mesa’s charm offering FREE, winter holiday-themed activities during the one-day event for the community to enjoy. The annual Holiday in the Village takes place in the heart of downtown La Mesa along La Mesa Blvd. between 4th Street to Spring Street on Saturday, December 13 from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. Guests of all ages can take to the “ice” for skating on a synthetic rink. The “Winter Wonderland” kids area is filled with inflatable bouncies. Families can cozy up at the “Mrs. Claus Reading Nook” to listen to holiday themed stories. Putt your way through a Miniature Golf Course full of holiday cheer. Snap a selfie at the holiday-themed photo op stop. And, go on a scavenger hunt along the “Elf Adventure Trail” where guests can seek out elves “hiding” throughout our local businesses and can enter to win one of the elves!
