Then, the Pentagon is finishing a review of its policies regarding suicide. Though the number of military suicides declined slightly last year, it remains a major problem. Military leaders are trying to address it in a number of new ways. And finally, for our weekend preview, we have music made with machines, new visual art and an indie band celebrating two great albums.

  • From the gallery: On the evening of November 16, Quint Gallery will host UK-based artist Eric Snell for an in-situ revival of a performance which originally took place in 1986 in which Snell draws a spiral on a wall using the smoldering ash of burning wood. For this iteration, the artist will source wood from one of the city's proliferation of eucalyptus trees, which arrived in San Diego from Australia after the gold rush of 1849. Performance: Nov. 16.
