  • Charlene is a German-American artist based in San Diego. She received her BA in Studio Arts from San Diego State University. Mosley’s current work discusses the importance of looking into one's self and allowing it to emerge in daily life. So often in a society that has certain standards and expectations, a lot of our true self is hidden or tamed to fit in, to appear a certain way or to belong. Her body of work is meant to inspire the viewer to live as courageously as a tiger, as resilient and freeing as a butterfly and to shed in renewal, like a snake. The wild animals reveal a unique connection to each person they are portrayed with. They embody attributes such as courage, strength, transformation, and reinvention, offering a sense of empowerment by their sheer presence. Mosley's work often depicts people of color surrounded by plants and beautiful stoic animals that harmoniously charge each other in vibrant color. With an interplay of expressive brushwork and texture Mosley evokes movement and excitement, capturing the viewer’s eye in a journey of discovery. Mosley has exhibited in both national and international exhibitions and won several awards. She also works as a freelance artist on a multitude of projects, including: murals, commissions and book illustrations; with a specialty in children’s books. In 2016, Mosley was one of the contributing artists of “Loving Vincent“, the 1st fully painted, Oscar-nominated feature film. This opportunity was the artist’s first time working in animation. Creating 250+ frames for the film, “was life-changing and a motivation to keep pursuing my passion as an independent artist”, notes Mosley. Mosley has travelled extensively to work on projects with national as well as international clientele. She is currently represented by Sparks Gallery in southern California. Her solo exhibition, “Embrace The Inner Wild” will open this September 1st, 2024 and will last one month. • From the KPBS holiday arts guide: Playwright Anna Ouyang Moench's new comedy follows a young actor who returns to the same local theater production of "A Christmas Carol" year after year — though his roles change as he ages. Moench, part of the writing room for Apple TV+'s "Severance," has a knack for writing powerful and relatable character-driven plays like the recent Moxie Theatre production of "Birds of North America." Details: Nov. 19 - Dec. 15. La Jolla Playhouse, 2910 La Jolla Village Dr., La Jolla. $30+. —Julia Dixon Evans, KPBS From the organizers: By Anna Ouyang Moench & Directed by Les Waters Christmas, but not as you know it. Leave the little ones at home and gather ‘round for a very Playhouse take on Christmas. "Your Local Theater Presents: A Christmas Carol, by Charles Dickens, Again" is a laugh-out-loud funny and heartfelt story for theatre lovers and holiday enthusiasts alike. Eddie is a young actor, fresh out of Juilliard and ready to make his mark on the American Theatre. His dreams are within reach… sort of. First he’s just going to do this regional production of "A Christmas Carol." As the years pass, Eddie finds himself back at the same local theatre, over and over and over again. Much remains the same: the play, the stage manager, the green room — though Eddie finds himself in different costumes as he ages through the male roles over the course of his career. Anna Ouyang Moench’s comedic and moving new play is a love letter to actors, artists and dreamers of all professions who make sacrifices large and small in service of their work… and ultimately wonder whether it was worth it. • Kacey Musgraves has always been a little bit magic. From the tumbling sparkle of Laurel Canyon acoustics that cascade into “Cardinal,” the swirling opener on the seven-time Grammy winner’s fifth album, Deeper Well, the metaphysical and incandescent are even more present and powerful from a woman whose songs have cast a glow on how evolved people live since her first single charmed the world with its hypocrisy-skewering charm.
