The Sip features many of Julian’s alcoholic beverage purveyors. Proof that we’re not just about apples and great pie, we have growers and producers of wine, craft beer,, craft cocktails, and delicious hard cider, offering up a sampling of their delicious hand-crafted specialties. As in previous years, the event runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and gives tasters time to enjoy their samples paired with small bites at each venue, take in the scenery, and spend a relaxing day enjoying the sights and sounds of Julian. Ticket holders enjoy a self-guided day throughout Julian to visit the various participating locations. “Summer is a beautiful time in Julian and this event allows you to sample the region’s fine crafted beverages, taste gourmet bites, and explore the backcountry.” “It’s a perfect excuse to book a quaint room and make it a weekend adventure!” Attendees will receive a commemorative glass and wine tote. Age verification, along with distribution of maps and logo glasses begins at 10 a.m. the day of the event at the Julian Chamber of Commerce located at Town Hall, 2129 Main Street. This event is a fundraising benefit for Julian’s Annual Country Christmas and Tree Lighting Celebration happening each November in Julian. This annual event ushers in the holiday season with music and lighting the town Christmas tree. Julian is an historic community located in the San Diego County Mountains at an elevation of 4200 feet. Quaint shops and restaurants, unique bed and breakfasts, hotels, and lodges all welcome visitors to enjoy a getaway in the country. This new Judeo-Spanish (Ladino) course is based on Sephardic tales. Students will have the opportunity to read them in the Latin alphabet. We will also practice speaking skills, and those who want will receive short writing tasks. Elements of the Hebrew Rashi script will be included as well. This course is appropriate for people with basic knowledge of Ladino or Spanish. If needed, the dates of the course can be adjusted to match students’ availability. On Thursday, April 6 at 5:30 p.m., the 100% volunteer-based nonprofit San Diego Professionals Against Cancer will be holding Bingo & Beer at Harland Brewing’s Scripps Ranch Tasting Room. There will be fun prizes for bingo winners including packages from BevMo, Dream Dinners, gift cards to local stores and restaurants and more. The bingo games are donation based with a suggested donation of $4 for one card of $10 for three cards. Leagues Cup 2024 is coming to San Diego on Friday, August 9! Club America, LIGA MX league champion and No. 1 rank, will host the second-place finisher in Group West 8 at Snapdragon Stadium. The second edition of this Concacaf-sanctioned competition features all 18 clubs from the Mexican league, LIGA MX, and all 29 clubs from Major League Soccer (MLS) representing the U.S. and Canada. These 47 clubs will compete in a World Cup-style club tournament from July 26 to August 25, 2024. The tournament will determine three qualifiers for the 2025 Concacaf Champions Cup, with the winner of Concacaf Champions Cup representing the region at the FIFA Club World Cup. Way Outside the Lines presents Destination Joy! An immersive art collaboration between San Diego neighborhoods utilizing art and the MTS Trolley System to foster solidarity and raise awareness. The Urban Collaborative Project and lead artist, Khalil Bleux, are partnering with some exceptional artists and cultural practitioners from San Ysidro, Chula Vista, National City, and Southeast San Diego for a 2-day event on August 3rd and 4th from 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. on the MTS Trolley cars and select Trolley stations: San Ysidro- Iris Avenue Transit Station, Chula Vista- E Street Transit Center, National City- 24th Street Transit Center, Downtown- Park and Market, Southeast San Diego- Euclid Avenue Transit Station and Jacobs Center. The organizers of this immersive event recognize the transformative power of art, cultural practice, and solidarity in working toward equity and justice. The 2-day art program aims to inspire community engagement and raise awareness regarding the impact of systemic racism and oppressive practices such as redlining. There are two ways to enjoy this special event. Reserve a ticket for the FREE full-ride, guided immersive experience or go to any of the four FREE Trolley Station Activation sites. Community members can stop at each Trolley Station Activation to explore thought-provoking art and cultural performances. The tour will end at Destination JOY! an amazing day-long event at the Joe & Vi Jacobs Center in Southeast San Diego.
