Take charge of your heart health! Join us at TrueCare’s family-friendly Love Your Heart Health Fair, in partnership with the County of San Diego and Live Well San Diego. TrueCare’s Love Your Hearth Health Fair, in partnership with the County of San Diego and Live Well San Diego, will feature FREE blood pressure checks and blood pressure monitors (while supplies last). The community health fair will also offer a wide range of wellness resources for a healthy heart tailored to families and individuals of all ages. There will be fun, interactive activities for kids and free food boxes with fresh produce (while supplies last), alongside TrueCare’s mobile unit with flu vaccines (while supplies last). Additionally, San Diego’s Blood Mobile will be on site to accept blood donations. The fair will present an opportunity to access a variety of resources, including health insurance enrollment assistance, resume reviews by TrueCare’s human resources team for anyone interested in working at TrueCare, and a voter registration booth. No-cost children’s dental screening, and HIV and Hepatitis C tests will also be available. Love Your Heart is an annual event in which organizations join together to educate the community on heart health. Nearly half of American adults have high blood pressure and don’t know it, because most of the time there are no obvious symptoms. This event helps people understand what their blood pressure is and what the blood pressure numbers mean. As a recognized Live Well partner, TrueCare is hosting this free public event for the entire community to celebrate Love Your Heart Week and American Hearth Month in February. Attendees can meet several of TrueCare’s friendly medical and dental providers and team members who are passionate about ensuring health care for all. The Rescue House, Inc. is a non-profit, volunteer-based organization dedicated to assisting cats through its rescue, foster and adoption activities. In recent years, there has been a growing movement for the recognition and inclusion of Afro- Argentines in the national narrative. Activists, scholars and Afro-Argentine organizations have been working to raise awareness about the African contributions to Argentine society, challenge racism and promote equal rights. Efforts have also been made to document and preserve Afro-Argentine history and culture, as well as to promote representation in media, politics and other spheres. In this talk, Gaby Messina reflects on the current conditions of Afro visibility based on her own personal experience as an artist. She is a visual artist from Argentina whose work extends over two decades. She is the author of several books of photography and short films. Her work has been exhibited in numerous museums and galleries around the world. Her main areas of interest are visual representations of the African diaspora in Latin America with a focus on Afro-Argentines and their descendants. Update, Feb. 8: La Jolla Music Society announced today that the internationally acclaimed Miró Quartet will replace the Arod Quartet in concert on February 17, 2024, at 7:30 p.m. at The Conrad, as the Arod Quartet’s concert tour has been canceled due to visa issues. UC San Diego Music is honored to welcome composer and jazz legend HENRY THREADGILL to campus: Tuesday, February 6 at 8 p.m. at the Conrad Prebys Music Center, Experimental Theater. A guest of fellow Pulitzer Prize winner, Distinguished Professor of Music Anthony Davis, Mr. Threadgill is a composer, saxophonist, and flautist. He was awarded the 2016 Pulitzer Prize in Music for his album: "In for a Penny, In for a Pound." Mr. Threadgill will coach and perform with UC San Diego Music graduate students, to perform excerpts from his album: "Dirt...And More Dirt."
