The Guild is a 200-member all-volunteer nonprofit organization that operates the Off Track Gallery located in the Lumberyard Shopping Center in Encinitas. The Guild does incredible work in promoting and supporting local artists in the Encinitas area. Karen Fidel, one of the event organizers, says, “This event gives local artists a venue to offer their hand-made items to the public. Our customers are presented with unique and original creations directly from the artists themselves, which adds a personal touch to each purchase.” Linda Melvin, a local artist and member of the San Dieguito Art Guild, shares her excitement about the Holiday Bazaar, saying, “I look forward to this event every year. In this one-day workshop, students will learn about the properties of wood and how different wood species need to be approached when sanding and finishing. We will cover shop safety and how to use various machines such as the bandsaw, spindle sander, edge sander, and drill press. The skills learned in this course will allow you to elevate your future projects by adding curves and texture. We will build upon machine knowledge and cover wood shaping using various hand tools such as rasps, files, spokeshaves, hand planes, chisels, and gouges.
