Our littlest visitors and their families are invited to explore toddler-centered folk art, craft, and design! On July 18, we'll meet outside by the Nikigator where we'll explore the art of camouflage by reading "Hide and Snake" by Keith Baker, a story that shows just how good snakes are at hiding. After the story, we will create our own colorful snakes and find creative ways to hide them. Mini Mingei is perfect for parents, grandparents, and caregivers with children ages 2–5. It asks: What does it mean to be emotionally visible in a world that often demands detachment? Vanessa Rishel invites viewers to explore vulnerability and softness through her most recent and experimental works. Drawing on personal memory, sensory perception, and speculative imagination, her practice negotiates the thresholds between inner affect and external expression. Through color, and spatial arrangement, Rishel creates atmospheres that oscillate between comfort and unease—spaces where emotion is not only seen, but felt. Sunday, December 1, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Join us in the woodshop for this 4-hour brush making workshop! We will cover shop safety and how to use various machines such as the bandsaw, spindle sander, edge sander, and drill press. You will hone your carving skills by adding curves and texture to your piece. We will build upon machine knowledge and cover wood shaping using various hand tools such as rasps, files, spoke shaves, hand planes, chisels, and gouges. We will also discuss design principles, functional applications, the properties of wood, and brush materials such as Tampico fibers. At the end of the workshop, each student will leave with a unique brush to be used in the home, the shop, or as a beautiful sculpture or gift. Materials are provided. We recommend students bring their own eye protection, ear protection & apron. Aprons for sale here. No experience necessary. Ages 18+ welcome.
