Lucas Smith, celebrated award-winning artist is presenting a “Retrospective” solo exhibition from June 4 – June 30 in the Winer Family Community Room & Art Gallery of the San Carlos Branch Library. Lucas has brought a fresh perspective to abstract art, blending imagination, raw materials and refined techniques to create pieces that invite viewers on a journey of exploration. This show is a retrospective collection of his personal favorites from prior series and key moments along his artistic growth journey. Lucas is the resident artist of Studio 2 at Art on 30th in North Park, San Diego. In the past year, his work has been juried in dozens of shows in some of San Diego County’s best galleries and awarded Best of Show, two 1st place, two 2nd place, 3rd place, Juror’s Choice, three Honorable Mentions and People’s Choice. Lucas is a member of Carlsbad Oceanside Art League, San Diego Watercolor Society, OMA Artist Alliance, Sergeant Art Group, Foothills Art Association, and the San Diego Museum of Art. He currently serves as the Assistant Director of the SDWS 45th International Exhibition and devotes his energy to commissioned creations and continued maturity of his artistic vision and voice. Gretel processes the grief at the death of her mother and the rejection of her stepfamily while on the hero’s journey, facing knights and witches, spells and curses, and through it all the question–how will she survive? Generous support from the San Diego community helps HandsOn San Diego support over 100 San Diego schools, parks and nonprofits. We would appreciate if you would consider donating and joining us for VolunBEERS where you have the opportunity to support our organization and give back to our local community through volunteer service, while enjoying the best beer San Diego has to offer! Our July VolunBEERS is dedicated to supporting youth literacy within San Diego with Words Alive!, an organization whose mission is to open opportunities for life success by inspiring a commitment to reading. Attendees will join us in packing learning kits that include a craft activity, resource guides, and a copy of a book for students. Volunteers will additionally join us in a letter writing campaign that is dedicated to students, educators, and volunteers in their programs. Space and supplies are limited, so we recommend buying your tickets early. General admission is $25 for the Thumbs Up ticket which includes project supplies + one non-alcoholic beverage.
