November 23, from 9:30 a.m. - Noon It’s time to get into the Winter spirit by creating Glass Nightlights or Ornaments for yourself or a special someone on your gift list. Join Instructor Suzanne Balestri on the Saturday after Thanksgiving to make holiday ornaments such as snowmen, penguins, Judaica, candles, wreaths, Christmas trees, elves, etc. Keep the season’s inspiration going, and design a nightlight to add a soft seasonal glow to any room. (Nightlight mechanism will be provided.) You’ll have a wide selection of glass colors, textures and patterns to create one-of-a-kind winter treasures. No previous glass experience needed. Suzanne will help you along the way, and will send you instructional glass cutting and grinding videos in advance of the workshop so you can become familiar with several techniques before class. All glass art will be kiln-fired after class and ready for pick up at the Collective a few days later. A $15 (cash only) materials fee is due to the instructor at the start of the class. Learn to Weave with Silk! Saturday, March 15, 1-5 p.m. In instructor Jeanine Ertl’s class, students will weave together in a space of colorful creativity and openness. She will provide instruction on weaving, a warped lap loom and a rainbow of recycled sari silk ribbon and yarn fibers to ignite your imagination. And we’ll weave together, learning and playing with the basics of the process from start to finish, each creating a unique handwoven that can be hung or draped, according to your desires. Please feel free to bring any items you may want to incorporate into your weaving, like interesting fibers, foraged and gathered natural objects, shells with holes, beads, etc. you may want to incorporate into your weaving. Each Weaver will complete a one-of-a-kind Handwoven Wall Hanging. In addition, if you find that you’re in love with the practice, you will have an option to purchase the loom you are working with, as well as additional fiber and tools to continue at home. Come explore mindfully making in a space of creativity & harmony with others. No experience necessary. The Coronado Philharmonia Orchestra presents a violin and harp duet, on Friday, April 21 at 1 p.m. Ciara Dabkoswski (violin) and Stefan Wendel (harp) will be playing "Saint-Saens' Fantaisie" for Violin & Harp, "Piazzolla's Histoire du Tango", and "Kreutzer-Boscha's Nocturne No.1" in Bb. Stefan Wendel and Ciara Dabkowski are a violin and harp duo from San Diego, CA. They met playing for the Villa Musica Summer Orchestra in 2016 and regularly perform together in various ensembles, including the Coronado Philharmonia, City Ballet Orchestra, and La Jolla Symphony. Stefan received his degree in harp performance from the Royal Academy of Music in London and now serves as principal harpist with the City Ballet Orchestra while pursuing a graduate degree in Mathematics. Ciara received her degree in Mathematics from UCSD and in addition to her career as a software engineer, serves as orchestra manager and librarian for both the City Ballet Orchestra and Villa Musica Summer Orchestra.
