Spreckels Organ Society – a non-profit organization curating concerts and performances in the heart of Balboa Park – is inviting the public for a one-of-a-kind Insiders Tour of the inner-workings of the iconic Spreckels Organ, as well as a special brunch, on Saturday, Sept. 14 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. There will be a continental brunch, on-stage seating, and an exclusive performance by San Diego Civic Organist Raúl Prieto Ramírez, who is also the Artistic Director of the Spreckels Organ Society. Curator Dale Sorenson will begin with an introduction on the mechanics of the Spreckels Organ, followed by the “Insiders Tour” of the Spreckels Organ (tour requires guests to be able to navigate stairs and tight spaces). This annual event is the only time the public will be allowed into the windchest while the organ is playing. Karen New Year celebration is the biggest cultural celebration for people of the Karen ethnicity of Burma, and other refugees from Burma resettled in San Diego. 2025 Karen New Year celebration, will be held on Saturday January 11, 2025, at the Colina Del Sol Park. KOSD aims to welcome at least 500 people during the four hours of cultural celebration. More than 100 community members, volunteers, and KOSD staff will be involved with the event planning and production process. The event will include opening and closing ceremonies, a presentation on Karen New Year history, more than 15 cultural dance and music performances, and youth cultural fashion shows.
