  • The library’s new tool lending program is the first of its kind in San Diego County and features everything from jackhammers to sewing machines.
  • Dr. Lisa Stowers of Scripps Research Institute will discuss how her laboratory focuses on basic neuroscience in determining how the brain creates and responds to emotion. Using male mice in a amimal model, responses to another animal entering the cage begin with the sensory system. Pheromones released are an indication of how social interactions will proceed. The lab has made several discoveries about specific pheromones that connect with emotional responses in mice.   • We’re currently hosting a Military Push-Up Challenge for active-duty service members and veterans, where the participant with the most push-ups will win a free 2 carat diamond engagement ring. The contest runs from March 20 through April 18 in celebration of National Exercise Day. Each participant is given one attempt to complete as many push-ups as possible. Proper form is required throughout, and competitors cannot pause for more than three seconds at any time. Everyone loves flowers, but hate when they die. In this workshop we will create a wooden box with wooden flowers! Guests will have the option of painting there own unfinished wood flowers or using pre colored flowers to create there arrangements. Arrangements will be finished off with a variety of dried flowers.
