What is Community “Environmental Dashboard” (ED) Technology? How can it Foster and Empower Community Engagement, Sustainability and Climate Resilience? Our modern lifestyles have caused most humans to lose connection with the natural world. We are insulated from the consequences of our actions and may not even be aware of how these actions affect the environment. How can we tap into the feedback mechanisms that served us in the past in today’s modern world to foster and empower community engagement, sustainability, and climate resilience? In this talk, we will learn about “Environmental Dashboard” (ED) technology, which is now implemented in several organizations and communities. This exciting technology reconnects people with the natural world by making flows of resources visible and promoting sustainable thought and action. Extensive research demonstrates that exposure to ED content significantly enhances systems thinking and pro-environmental and pro-community social norms and behaviors. Each installation comprises: 1) “Building Dashboard,” which dynamically displays real-time resource consumption in individual buildings to promote resource conservation. 2) “Citywide Dashboard,” which animates whole-community resource flows and environmental conditions. 3) “Community Voices,” which combines images and text to celebrate thought and action that advance social, ecological, and economic dimensions of sustainability. Interactive stories combine content to tell the story of community sustainability and resilience. How might we expand dashboard digital signage throughout organizations and cities to promote a more unified effort to take climate action and encourage pro-environmental and pro-community behaviors? Join us on Wednesday evenings for a restorative yoga session at the Museum of Us! All are welcome, regardless of physical ability, experience, or age. Classes are held in the Museum rotunda by yoga instructor, Lunita Velásquez. The evening classes promote relaxation and restoration by strengthening the mind-body connection with deep stretching, breathwork, and a welcoming space. All are welcome, regardless of physical ability or yoga experience. People under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Please bring a yoga mat if you have one for your practice. We encourage guests to wear layers and bring blocks, blankets, and/or any additional yoga accessories they would prefer that will support their practice. The Museum will have a limited number of clean blankets, blocks, and mats available to lend out if needed. The class will begin promptly at 5:30 p.m. Please plan ample time for parking within Balboa Park. Museum doors will open at 5:15 p.m. for check-in and to set up your mat. All-female Baja California Authors Talk and Concert with Mixe singer María Reyna Join us for an incredible event. Enjoy The festival de octubre concert featuring María Reyna, a classical trained soprano from the Mixe region of Oaxaca, México as she shares her culture through the sounds of her language. Reyna sings popular songs and well known classical music translated into Mixe. Join us in experiencing Reyna’s beautiful music during a high level performance where the Mixe language makes this event a most unique experience. The event begins at 2:00 p.m. with presentations by female, Baja California born, authors, Mónica Elizabeth González Rameño and Priscila Rosas Martínez, both recipients of the Arts & Culture Award from the Secretary of Culture in Baja California for their short story “Inevitable” and the novel “Una Peluca Rubia”. They will discuss their works. The presentation will be followed by María Reyna’s concert.
