CREATE A UNIQUE BANDSAW BOX! Bandsaw boxes are beginner-friendly and have a variety of uses. Once you make one you can make many! In this one-day workshop, students will create a box made from a single block of wood using the bandsaw. We will cover shop safety and methods for cutting and gluing your box. Students will also learn sanding best practices and how to achieve a perfect finish using beeswax. We welcome all makers, from beginners to advanced. Materials are provided. We recommend students bring your own eye protection, ear protection & apron. Aprons for sale here. No experience necessary. Ages 18+ welcome. The first installment of this event will feature readings, an open mic, and a space to unite voices in solidarity with Palestine. We are honored to have Jason Magabo Perez and Karla Cordero co-hosting. Perez is an associate professor and director of ethnic studies at California State University San Marcos and is currently serving as the Poet Laureate of San Diego. Cordero is a Chicana poet, educator, author, and executive director of Glassless Minds, a 501 (c)(3) corporation that facilitates and fosters constructive emotional outlets and personal expression in an accepting and safe space for teenagers and young adults. The event will be held in person and broadcast on Instagram Live, ensuring that our message of peace and unity reaches as many hearts as possible.
