Concert Hour is a music enrichment series presented on the campus of Palomar College for our students, staff, and community by the Palomar College Performing Arts Department. Enjoy a range of exciting artists and musicians in the beautiful Howard Brubeck Theatre or Performance Lab D-10. The program is presented weekly during the Fall and Spring Semesters at 1 p.m. and ends at approximately 2 p.m. Admission and Parking are FREE. She is also a Professor of Music at Palomar College, where she has been on the faculty since 2000. The Theatre School @ North Coast Rep presents the climactic Shakespearean tragedy, Hamlet, as its next student production! The ghost of the King of Denmark tells his son Hamlet to avenge his murder by killing the new king, Hamlet’s uncle. Hamlet feigns madness, contemplates life and death, and seeks revenge. His uncle, fearing for his life, also devises plots to kill Hamlet. The play ends with a duel, during which the King, Queen, Hamlet’s opponent and Hamlet himself are all killed. Director Benjamin Cole is proud to share the talents of his student cast. “Especially with our outdoor summer Shakespeare production we get some exceptional teen performers,” Cole beams. “Knowing we were going to have the exciting challenge of three different outdoor venues in three different cities I wanted to offer a show that would really highlight some of the best of what we can do,” he declares. Leading actor playing the role of Hamlet, Kai Bunyak, adds, “The character of Hamlet is such a universal challenge and privilege to portray. He has been played by countless individuals, across cultures, experience levels, and backgrounds, and as a genderqueer teen I am honored to step into that legacy. In our production, I hope you can see what a group of fired up young performers can bring to this centuries-old tale.” The show runs a breathtaking 90 minutes with no intermission and hopes to rouse audience’s appreciation and understanding of live Shakespeare performance. This FREE symposium will explore, how, at a global level, Homo sapiens have reshaped the planet Earth to such an extent that we now talk of a new geological age, the Anthropocene. But each of us shapes our own worlds, physically, symbolically, and in the worlds of imagination. This symposium focuses especially on one form of construction, the construction of buildings, while stressing that such construction is ever shaped by diverse factors from landscape to culture and the construction of history embodied in it - and more. After a brief look at birds building their nests as an example of variation on a species-specific Bauplan, we sample a broad sweep of cultural evolution and niche construction from the earliest stone tools of Neanderthals and Homo sapiens through the Neolithic and the rise of cities to the formal and informal architecture of the present day. Finally, we explore the ways artificial intelligence may further change how humans construct their mental and physical worlds. Attend in person at the Conrad T.
