Grab your vintage surfboard (or beach chair) and gather for a nostalgic longboard competition at the North Side of Crystal Pier in Pacific Beach. The Old Mission Beach Athletic Club presents their annual longboard surfing contest. All contestants must surf on 1969 or older longboards, 9’ or longer, with no leash. There are separate divisions for Open, Wahine and Menehune (youth 16 years old and under). One Book, One San Diego has announced the selections for the 2024 region-wide read: “Know My Name: A Memoir,” by Chanel Miller has been chosen for adult readers; “Victory. Stand! Raising My Fist for Justice,” by Tommie Smith and Derrick Barnes and illustrated by Dawud Anyabwile for teens and tweens; and “Barrio Rising: The Protest that Built Chicano Park,” by María Dolores Águila and illustrated by Magdalena Mora for children.

The move could save money and increase water reliability for both communities.
