  • La Perla is a powerhouse Colombian trio of researchers, singers, and instrumentalists dedicated to preserving and evolving the musical heritage of the Caribbean. Formed in 2014 by Karen Forero, Giovanna Mogollón, and Diana Sanmiguel, they made history in 2015, becoming the first band from Bogotá to win first prize at the Festival de Gaitas de Ovejas, only the second time in its 30+ year history that the honor was awarded to women. Their song "Bruja"(2018) became an anthem for women across Latin America, featured in the Netflix series Siempre Bruja and embraced in social uprisings in Spain, Colombia, and Chile. Divina Jasso is a dynamic vocalist and multi-instrumentalist who has performed across a wide range of genres, from Latin jazz, soul, and R&B to reggae, hip-hop, and dub. In recent years, she has honed her skills in music production and live looping, crafting an intimate and immersive performance style.   • Kathy’s Legacy Foundation is hosting our 6th Annual Kathy’s Legacy Golf Tournament at Twin Oaks Golf Course on May 2, 2025. The purpose of this event is to raise funds for the children and pets impacted by domestic violence in our community. Our fundraising efforts from this event will ensure these under-served children receive the financial and emotional assistance they need. It will also help us support domestic violence victims with pets to leave their abusive situation.   • March is National Nutrition Month, and Scripps Cancer Center will host a free virtual class on Tuesday, March 18 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. to help cancer patients maintain the best possible nutrition as they go through treatments. Attendees will learn about optimal nutrition and hydration, food flexibility, the importance of adequate protein and calories, and nutritional options to address treatment-related side effects. Research shows that up to 80% of cancer patients in the United States are malnourished while undergoing treatments, which can hinder their outcomes.   • The Mainly Mozart All-Star Orchestra Festival returns to San Diego June 18 to June 28, 2025. The annual summer festival is a highlight of the classical music calendar and the country’s largest gathering of concertmasters and principal players from the nation’s top orchestras. Under the baton of Maestro Michael Francis, who returns for his 11th year as music director and conductor, the 2025 festival features six, unique performances at two venues, The Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center and the UC San Diego Epstein Family Amphitheater. The festival, the largest Mozart celebration in North America, opens with a must-hear performance of Mozart’s newly discovered Serenade in C Major. Featuring musicians from top U.S. orchestras including the New York Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony, Cleveland Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra and more, Mainly Mozart’s All-Star Orchestra is the only orchestra of its kind in the country. At The Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center in La Jolla, each concert will be preceded by new Mozart-themed pre-concert talks or mini-concerts at 6 p.m. in The JAI, which will be included in the base ticket price. At the UC San Diego Epstein Family Amphitheater, attendees will now be able to bring in their own food and (non-alcoholic) beverages.
